Does anyone in this thread currently work for Southern and also commute to whatever base you fly from?

I interviewed today and asked about commuting and the HR rep said that some of the pilots do commute. No CASS currently, but within the next 90 days.

Oh awesome! So the interviews are just postponed. I have yet to receive another email to reschedule though. Is there a contact that I can get in touch with? Thanks..

The recruiter said we should hear something by tomorrow Friday. If anyone gets the good news please let us know! It looks like Mesa might have overblown the whole thing out of proportion. There were only a few positions open (8 I think she said) and Mesa has it plastered all over their website.

I got a email at 7:30 this morning asking me to schedule an interview today or tommorow. That is pretty short notice. Everything I've heard about SAE from posts or past employees doesn't really paint a great picture plus the low pay and a hefty training contract? I'm close enough to 135 minimums I think I'm going to have to pass. I have my heart set on another 135 gig whenever a posistion opens up.

I was offered a position but turned it down because I believe I have a decent shot at PlaneSense. Also the FO pay is awful and not worth getting looped into the contract.

F/O pay is abusive, even compared to all the low salaries out there

I will reiterate what I wrote back in September, is that you don't go there for the F/O pay ($12 flt hr for 6 mo then $18). You are ONLY there to built flight time and to take the scheduling abuse. Just have a good amount in your savings, about a years worth to live off of.

You're working, it's a job, and even though we accept the low pay for an entry job... That doesn't mean we can't criticize the conditions.
I'd take the job if I get the offer, but that doesn't I can't admit conditions are miserable

Alright, well maybe look at it as paid training or internship. When it is all said and done, would you take any other job for $5 per hour? (factoring time on duty vs pay). Before when it was Sun Air, they used to charge $8000 for the privilege to work for them. From the company's perspective an F/O is there to fill a DOT EAS contract requirement. And you are correct it is a job because you are required to be there if you are scheduled for a trip.
