Then how does one log time as an SIC? Is an SIC not required as a part of their ops-spec?

I believe there is an exception in the Op Spec which allows single pilot ops when necessary. I know folks who worked at BTQ and occassionally for W&B reasons a passenger would sit up front in the right seat and the flight operated single pilot.

I know, I turned it down.
I'll just leave this here... Who spots it first?

GOM specifies the crew composition, not Ops Specs. Opspecs just allow the use of AP in lieu of an SIC when carrying passengers under IFR.
