I was told that you sell everything you have, get a cheap room/apartment by the airport, hang around the airport all day/everyday and make myself known.
If, when your money ran out and it was time to go home you had found a job - WELCOME TO ALASKA; if not - then thanks for trying and don't let the door hit your butt on the way back down to the Lower 48.
I didn't take the chance.
I still sometimes kick myself in the butt for it

I called up there in '88 when I was looking at doing the same thing.

Oh, so you're being picky about your employer now? Seriously? Mom and Dad aren't picking up the tab forever. Time to spread your wings, Junior.
It doesn't matter how reputable or shady an outfit is. You are supposed to be the Pilot In Command. That means you call the shots on what you are "comfortable" with. Your learning curve is about to get steep and Flight School is over. Welcome to to the biz.

All correct. Except, it does matter. I don't think it's picky to ask if an airline is known to be shady.
