Default Got My 1st Class Medical w/ Asthma!

I was issued a 1st class Medical today no problem. I put down I had asthma and that I used an inhaler in the past. The examiner said it was no problem, as long as I wasn't prescribed anything other than the inhaler, which I haven't.

The best news is I didn't even require a special issuance.

Feels good to get that clear and out of the way!

Grats! However this may not be set in stone. The FAA may require that you send them additional information regarding your history and treatment of asthma. Then at their digression they will send you notice of approval or denial of your FAA medical application.

So far so good. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed! Thanks for the heads up.

Don't ask don't tell .... Even if I was blind and crippled and dead I wouldn't claim a thing on that paper

Bad advice. There are lots of threads on lots of aviation forums on what happens when you are caught withholding information. Medical records are mostly computerized now, at least in the US, and you essentially waive all confidentiality vis-a-vis the feds when you sign the application.

Nothing much will happen until you have an incident and NTSB/FAA finds something you haven't reported. If you're not already blind, crippled, and dead then you will be - at least financially.

mspano, I have a history of mild asthma (now dormant) and was taking Advair for awhile. As long as it's well-controlled (you're not having to use the inhaler) FAA isn't too worried, as least as of four years ago. There is an ongoing ISO 9000 initiative in Oke City, I'm told, that results in their asking for additional information sometimes, but I wouldn't be too concerned. A couple of AME's post here occasionally - perhaps they could weigh in.

i have had the FAA Medical Div months after my physical ask for clarification on something... usually with a deadline after which they will void your medical if you don't respond. Good Luck.

Yes, it is controlled. The last inhaler I was prescribed actually expired before I even took it out of the box. That was about 3 years ago. I think I'm in good shape and if the FAA asks for some clarification I don't have any doubt I can pass some tests to prove I'm okay.

Thanks for the input you all!
