Do you or do you know anyone that commutes from the West Coast? If so, how bad is the QOL and is it worth it? It seems like no matter which regional I pick, I'm going to have to commute out of Seattle for a while unless I go to Horizon, and that airline seems to be imploding.

There sure is! Congatulations, on your decision to come to PSA. No job is perfect, but as far as a regional goes, it's a good place to be with lots of movement and opportunity. The training department and instructors will do a good job to prepare you for every facet of the program. If you can memorize basic limitations, call outs, and procedures you will do fine. The instructors want you to succeed and will help you if you put forth the effort. I agree with what many have said here, this ain't rocket science. The best thing you can do is get together with your partner and determine what works best for the two of you in terms of working as a crew and studying for IPTs. From that you will determine your strengths and weaknesses with the flows and calls and will know what areas you will need to concentrate your efforts. I drove home every weekend during indoc and IPT's and maybe spent a total of 2 hours studying the material each weekend, otherwise I spent time with my family. Your knowledge and study habits may be different. That being said, bring your clubs if that's your thing, and hit a bucket of balls on your time off. I'd even say to try in get 9 in if you can, being that it is spring in Ohio, the weekend's tend to get busy at the golf course, so a good strip club is always a good alternate plan!

I think that I came across as being more harsh than intended. That was not my intent. Just getting a little frustrated. Thats all.

The strip clubs in Dayton are a 4 out of 10, in my opinion. There is one within walking distance of the hotel, but I would recommend taking an Uber. Never found a good massage parlor, but there are often some lot lizards at the truck stop that isn't too far away.

Not really my scene, but when ALPA is treating everyone to a night out, Ill tag along.

It will be great when you get a R1 Line and are able to SAP away trips. If you can only fly three trips a month and have a string of days off to do non-flying related work or just take time off then you've got a good thing going. Reserve will suck. Commuting to reserve will suck worse. Being thrown around at the whims of inept schedulers makes you reconsider why you even decided to play this game.

Now, mind you, all regionals have this QOL problem while on reserve. PSA has a way to make it better once you get a round one line. Pick a base that gets you a round one line the fastest. There are several who commute from out West, myself included. Without SAP, this would be intolerable long term. By no means am I a cheerleader for this place or any other regional. In fact, I'd encourage you to bypass the regionals if at all possible. However, if you must do your time in a regional, the SAP is a great QOL tool.

I talk to about 6 people on here via PM per day. Sometimes more. They really do want to know about things like this and are basing decisions on which training hotel has the best eggs in the morning.

It is frustrating.

They must really like eggs...

I understand what you were getting at, my man... As I said, I (and assuredly a LOT of other people) appreciate the time, energy, and measured responses you provide on here.

No big deal... you have provided much help and good answers to many questions I and others have asked in the past. So very appreciative.... just trying to get a feel for what all to expect during training. Made decision for PSA a few weeks back

I get it, all is good! You provide a lot of valuable insight to folks trying to get some straightforward information on what may be their first experience in 121 operations. In all reality it is better to tell some to be overly prepared than to be that guy that busts a check ride and training event that will tarnish their background for future opportunities. I was just being facetious about the strip clubs, in fact you may even be up selling them a bit with the 4 out 10 rating!

Who has the Ops limits they can send via PM? I'm getting close to my date and want to start getting them down before I show.

Thank you.

I just got hired as well! They told me that I would receive my info packet about 2 weeks before class (which will be soon)!

I asked the guy that interviewed me, and he said that the best thing to do right now is to make sure I am sharp with my instrument skills, and to be familiar with approaches, STARs, SIDs, and 10-9's. Also, look through "Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot" (which most people on here recommend!), and then spend a few days reviewing the airplane limitations once I get them.

Also, he told me that there are about 1000 flashcard app's that have CRJ limitations that you can download free, but to be careful because different companies/operators have different limitations for the same airplane, and they change over time (something about the flaps...). Primacy is a real thing, and don't want to start learning bad info to start.
