This, choose the easiest base for you to get to for the first couple months then consider switching it up to commute to a line when you have some seniority.

They have recently been adamant that Dayton is sticking around, but ironically that's only made me more confident that it's closing lol.

The more adamant they become about something the more likely the opposite is true. It’s been proven multiple times here lol

Pff, right?! The same idiots have been saying that TYS is closing for YEARS now. What a bunch of morons. What's next, let me guess, are they going to open a ORF base and close it a couple of years later?!? Get a grip! As long as I can buy my house in KY and drive 10 minutes to my CVG base, then my life is set!

For retirement, I'll get a job in the sim department and drive to Flight Safety, because they'll never move the sims to CLT...

I mean if we are all being honest here buying a home because you get based somewhere at any regional is probably not very smart (especially in the current housing market), even dumber would be planning on retiring at one. If you already have a home and are dead set on living somewhere and there are multiple regionals that offer bases that are driving commutable, pick whichever one works for you, but you run the risk of bases opening and closing on a whim at any of them.

I mean if you want Dayton you could always go to Air Whiskey they just announced a base there, probably safe for decades !

Air Wis just got a CRJ 900 from Lufthansa. PSA supposedly wants 20 more. So right now it looks like they’re only hiring for attrition and not growth since the planes are out there and they haven’t bought any.

As for the section 18’s, you have to understand the relationship of all the various departments at an airline. Flight Ops being the department with the most “power” or sway, if you will. So upper management sees a problem. “Fix the NWS issue. It’s costing us money. Flight Ops, get on it.” So flight Ops looks at the problem, and the means at their disposal to “fix” said problem. Which, in this case really isn’t much. They tried bulletins and notices to the pilot group and that didn’t work (not surprisingly) and so then they decided they’ll try another tool at their disposal, disciplinary hearings. The real fix involves neither bulletins or Section 18 hearings. But the real fix takes time and it’s difficult to show upper management you’re doing something about a problem if all you’re telling them is, “we are making changes that require regulatory approval. ETA 6 months. Stby to stby.” That doesn’t work well. Hence the hearings and hyper-focus on non compliance etc.

Just take your time, make sure you’re doing everything by the book. No need to rush anything for any reason, be methodical and deliberate. If you are in a “non-normal” situation like coming into a tow-in gate, at a power-out gate, or have no APU, just be extra careful. If you have a checklist that is interrupted, start it over from the beginning. Brief your FOs to double-check the parking brake and NWS switch at the before start and at shutdown. Make sure your EFB is up to date. Any normal pilot flying the line shouldn’t be worried about any of these things because frankly, you’re doing your normal job of showing up to work prepared and ready to work. Remember, we aren’t paid to get passengers and planes from A to B. We’re paid to mitigate risk between A and B. So mitigate.
I thought publically available statistics was self explanatory but I guess not...

Are these the same Blue Suede Denim Secret Police that came to take your Uncool Niece statistics that you quoted when you said American would be bankrupt by now?

Just curious...

PS - for all the PSA hopefuls... Piedmont just announced the reemergence of the 10,000 referral bonus...

so if all the guys that have been talking **** about PSA suddenly are telling you this is a great place all of a sudden.... brace for all the incoming Di¢k sucking...

Seriously though, I am on the Mentor committee if anyone wants to ask and have realistic answers about what my time at PSA has been like... for whatever its worth... (which ain't much)

Without an unprecedented (as in, never before happened in history) 3 government bailouts the entire industry would be a shadow of what it was in 2019. All 3 legacies would have been in bankruptcy and AA was a very likely candidate for liquidation. You don’t have to believe me, but the numbers m/history don’t lie. We’re all more fortunate than we probably realize to even be having this discussion right now.

And we’re not out of the woods yet. This whole Covid thing isn’t over. We’ve had some reprieve over the summer, but I have a feeling the government / CDC are going to throw some curve balls in the coming weeks/months.

how long would you say it will take to hold a line in Philly or DCA (junior bases) once done with IOE
