No attacking here, people can bid whatever they want. I personally think flight time has nothing to do with experience. What and where has a pilot been flying?? That's more important. I'd bet no one wants to get stuck in Dayton!

I still find interesting so many don't bid for the left seat, I get the fact people don't want to sit reserve in DAY or a city they don't live. According to management at PSA they have a lot of CRJ's coming and are in need of people to take the position of Captain. What's the time frame on Captain bids per month? To run a bid of 10 seems light, why not 25 if guys are leaving? Is it common to see the Captain bids going unfilled? Is junior Captain Dayton? thanks
It probably has everything to do with sim time, figuring out how to divide it between the 60 FO's per month that were coming in, Captain upgrades, then of course PC's and lofts. |

Man, you guys can't have it both ways. If every single FO was putting in for upgrade right when they hit 1000 you guys would be flipping out about how inexperienced they were and how unsafe the operation would be. Now that we have some of those FO's choosing to temporarily bypass (maybe they wanted some more experience, see more winter ops, etc) and you guys are flipping out over that too.

Exactly my point. It's undheard of to have 1/3rd of your pilots declining upgrade. A few dozen, sure... but 1/3rd is huge. |

Running CA Vacany bids every week and still resorting to street hires.... Our vacancy bids are so infrequent that hardly any bypass. Our place tries to not run them unless they have to for a number of reasons including that it causes too many extra training cycles from guys collecting type ratings. Sounds like some of our work rules - as trashy and lousy as they are to us - may still be better than yours too. That's interesting information |
I don't post much on here, but do read a good bit.
After reading 90% of this thread, it seems to be EXACTLY what the majors want -- for all the regional pilots to be at each others' throats. We are all simply earning a living doing what we love. The fact that we have to go through an abusive and expensive process is a testament to how much we love what we do....and the fact that every airline management knows it. I left Pinnacolaba in 2012. Tired of management making bad financial decisions then crying poormouth. Things like letting go 11 VPs and paying them 55 million severance instead of letting them work out their contracts. Things like the CEO giving himself a 60% raise one week, then declaring bankruptcy the next, to make sure that his raise would 'stick' in the bankruptcy. Approving a great contract 8 months before doing all this, while managers were running their departments to maximize bonus money or keep the shareholders happy rather than having the integrity to run their department with the airline's best interest in mind. I can't fault anyone for trying to earn to support their family. I will not fault someone for voting to keep their airline alive; after all, going from regional CA to a new regional to be an FO stinks financially. It is not these individuals that are the problem, but rather the system and its abuses. Any standing up for what we are worth should have taken place in the early 90s. Right now we are struggling with an entrenched system in a time when our skills and experience should be courted rather than abused. Keep your integrity and fight the good fight my brethren. Unity will serve us better than infighting. |

That's interesting information Growing airlines have so many upgrades coming in that people do not need to jump at the first one. Enjoy life, take vacations, and wait until the company can offer a good QoL to you before you upgrade. A $40/hr pay raise is not worth commuting to reserve. |

The SAP was a great recruiting tool and a great reason to stay at PSA, but management has either allowed it, or caused it to become useless. |

Yes they were.
The captain vacancy posted on 5/27 and published on 6/4. Maybe you'll look it up? I know a guy in the DEC class he wasn't on that award. And I know people in the training department. Trust me DECs aren't on upgrade awards. |

I did. And those aren't DECs. Those that say new hire were people hired as FOs had not yet finished FO training or been awarded a base as an FO. And got awarded upgrade.
