SKW CEO warns pilot shortage could lead...

Really? Newsflash, if the passengers buy a ticket from UAL.com, board from a UAL gate, onto a plane with essentially UAL livery, pick a Hemispheres magazine from the seatback pocket and are flown by pilots from an airline not UAL, is a UAL problem.

This. Taking on a huge training cost, with no clear path to the golden ticket, is the lunacy in the equation. Fortunately, due to the amount of the potential training note, even the federal government is going to be leery of a 100K+ note with F/O grade wages to pay it back. Its just bad business, but on that note, that has never stopped the government before, so........loans for everybody.

He could fix his own problems at Expressjet, it's not the taxpayers fault he would force an Express Jet captain to start at year 1 at Skywest airlines.
Double the FO scale and put all 3 airlines on one list with seat, and base locks.
1 indoc class
Done and done.

I don't blame the SKW CEO. He's not a jerk or abnormally greedy. That's just simply his job. What CEO wouldn't go ask for free money for his company? Let the government pay for the training the company would have to pay for otherwise, and entice some young kids with big dreams to take on a bunch of debt. His job is the SKW bottom line.
It's congress's job to see through the BS and make good decisions. I sent an email. Be concise, and proofread for spelling/grammar.

Let's everyone take a deep breath. I don't agree that loans alone will fix the problem, but access to reasonable financing for flight training IS a problem. If you don't go through an aviation university, you are looking at paying upwards of 7-9% interest in private loans. That is outrageous. While I think pay should be addressed as well, student loans for flight training is one of the biggest barriers of starting flight training.

This. People are too smart to catapult themselves into debt with no guarantee of a return of investment. Well, most people.
