The company is responsible for transportation to and from the hotel. They should also be responsible for the gratuity. Besides, who carries around a wad of singles?

Now if you are going to use that argument - then the answer is they do: Per Diem.

So when you see me (or any scum cheap pilot) not tip, and since $1-3 is nothing to you, go ahead and make us both happy, tip $1-3 more for my non-tip.
That way I don’t have to listen to your judgmental nonsense, and you won’t get ‘negative’ service from the driver.
It’s win-win!

Same to celebrities telling us not to fly while they are on their private jet. You give up your income in place of taking mine, win-win

This!

And here come the Ad-hominem attacks...

Non-tippers: *literal proof of job description with exactly that IN the job description*
Tippers: YoU’rE ChiLdiSh.
$4 to $6 dollars is an insignificant amount to a van driver? Are you one of those bozos who thinks they make $60 grand a year? If everyone on the crew tips $1, then yes it is a nice tip for the driver. If there is a "scum cheap pilot" (your words, not mine however I do agree with your self-projection) then yes $1 seems trivial but I am still going to do it. Most van drivers know that we may make 8 - 10 van trips in a week and can't tip them a fiver every time so they do understand the smaller amounts.

It is your right not to tip and I am not going to say anything because it is. However, like the FO from a couple weeks ago, don't be shocked when I politely turn down your suggestion to grab dinner and a drink if I see you as a "scum cheap pilot" (again, your words not mine).

no. I do not. Because unlike you, who wants to be a cheap mofo and will someday be the richest person in the cemetery, I believe in being generous towards fellow human beings who provide me a service and provide it well.

People who give a shizz. That’s who. I make one stop every couple months at the bank and grab $100 in singles. Easy. Keep a bunch in my wallet, and pack the rest in my flight bag.

Aside from the tipping debate, which i think what per diems are for (if it's not enough to get food and tip then it should be raised), this argument makes me roll my eyes inside out every time i read it.
IT IS 2020 ! Apple pay, samsung pay, paypal, tap-to-pay credit card and of course the good old CC that's been around for about 3 billions years so no, i barely carry cash around in two thousand and twenty

This thread cracks me up. Whenever you get a 1k handshake from a passenger I feel like it’s a duty to make it rain, from line service, to the front desk, to the cab, to housekeeping, to the waitstaff, to the bartender. Maybe I just misunderstand how trickle down economics works...

*facepalm*. No.... I am saying I y’all pro-tippers say we should tip $1-3 because it’s insignificant. And since that value (1 dollar, 2 dollars, whatever y’all think a good tip should be) is such an insignificant amount from your bank, AND you’re so worried of us ‘non-tipping-scum’ “causing van drivers to snub you” as a result, than go ahead and tip for us, it’s win-win. It’s so insignificant to you, why do you care, and the van drivers get that tip amount they would have got if we tipped them.

You can’t play both sides. Either it is a significant amount, and you can understand why we don’t do it, or it isn’t significant should insignificant, you should just do it for us if we don’t.

Are you serious?

It sounds like you did him a favor. I bet when he asked to go out to eat, he though he was going out with a non-judgmental donkey. If he knew you judged him based on his ability or willingness to give money to someone, he probably wouldn’t have asked you.

I bet you also give people the stink eye when they refuse to “help the “X” charity when they are just buying something unrelated at the store. You have no idea how much that person gives to that same charity or others on their own.

Even if I don’t agree with the tipping culture, I’m not going to refuse to eat with those who do. That’s what’s wrong with our society. Someone disagrees with you on 1 thing and you want nothing to do with them on all levels.
I would still not mind grabbing a bite/beer with you....but as we see, you can’t be seen in public with the likes of ‘my kind’, so it probably won’t happen.
