Holy cow! Isn't there anything in your guys' contract about how many RRs you can do a month? At Comair they can only give you 6/month and only 2 in a row.

How long are you guys' RRs and what's the credit?

We can have 10 a month and 3 in a row. We credit 4 hours.

Ready reserve at Mesaba has 10/month limit with 3 in a row max. I was assigned aircraft type before class, but I have heard of people from my class that got the aircraft changed about a week prior to starting. Ready reserve here is 8 hours duty, but they can extend to 14 hours if you get flight assignment during initial 8 hours. We get 4 hours credit flying, and 1.55/hr per diem while on ready, so $12.40 if no flight, and wait that per diem is taxable so maybe $9.00 makes it to my check.

It could be worse, just paying the dues, waiting for some new people to get online and bump me up the list and off ready reserve.

In the past 5 years I have been here there was barely enough reserves, let alone having enough for ready reserves.

I just upgraded and NEVER in the past 5 years have I ever sat RR until I finally got to Captain.

I think that part of the issue is that when we started getting all the airplanes, we didn't get that much flying to go with them. Part of the problem with training and OE scheduling in the 200 was not that much flying. There are a number of people who got there 100 hrs just going back and forth between MSP-RAP-MSP-CWA-MSP, EVERYDAY. Not a lot to get hours.

When I was SAABing it, we flew over 85 hrs a month. I think that with all the transitions - courtship and the like, we just didn't get that many hours, as a whole company. Which is why people in the SAAB are not flying as much as we were. Now as things get closer to the winter schedule, I understand that all fleets are going to be flying more.

So with the amount of aircraft we are getting (not rumored), I guess we need about 200 more pilots - less the ones training right now for all fleets. I don't expect any increase beyond the 36,17,49 aircraft already on the books, at least until the merger is finalized. Then who knows.

Maybe Pinnacle will get all the 200's back. Maybe all the SAABs will get replaced with Dashes. Maybe we will get the Freedom 900's. I have heard it all. Maybe we should put 787 and 777 rates in our contract and see what that brings. It worked for mainline with the 175 so maybe it would work for us.

Bottom line is if you have over 1500 hours, you could upgrade pretty fast. If not, it could take you a while to get the time so...

No kidding. It's EXTREMELY odd that this company is not only staffing for the upgrades but also staffing for full reserves and ready reserves... Status quo even during the furloughs has been to cut back to the point of having to junior man and cancel vacations.... I know my classmates on the Saab during the bankruptcy were getting junor man calls every day right up til the day the furlough kicked in. Yet now they have us so overstaffed that ready reserve is an every day event on all positions..... *** created this change in staffing?

what makes you say that, i am about 1020 out of the new list of 1095 or so. the latest vacancy award gave captain to a guy in the mid 500s.....I have my ATP, but I dont see CA in my future any time soon....even with 200 new hires in the next 4-6 months...as far as I can see the math doesnt add up

Just remember there are a lot of fos with the 1500 hours and if they dont have it, they are getting very close. There will be no need for street captains as most of the people who have been here for over a year do have the time and are going to upgrade. The last saab upgrade went fairly senior so i don't see junior upgrades anytime soon.

Bingo, a lot of the people hired last summer that could have upgraded right away didn't because they didn't feel comfortable doing so with so little 121 time and not having seen one winter here. Now all of those people have a year on line and a winter so they will take the upgrade.
