I grew up there and if I could choose any place to have a family, the ATL metro area would be #1.

I think the people on this site are very narrow minded and bigoted. Guess what? I am from the "inner city of ATlanta. Thats right, wher eall the black folks live. I am neither a gangster, rapper or anything else. To make general statements like that are ignorant and offensive. I wouldnt expect that from young people. I am black, a pilot, an officer in the military and well educated. I grew up right off of MLK Jr Dr.
So what exactly are you people talking about Atlanta?

my favorite city in the world
Blacks run Atlanta, and they do a fairly good job. They have good cops and pretty good mayors. It has its problems and a few shabby areas, but in the end Atlanta is my favorite city in the world. 2003-2006 I lived downtown. I was born there, graduated from university there, and learned to fly there. It is a dynamic, colorful, thriving city with the largest airport in the world. The weather is great and there is lots of money. The areas around the airport are poor but what modern town doesn't have a bad area or two. Some of the most decent people in Atlanta are from the poorer areas. You just get a good door lock and drive an old used car if you must live in one of them. Racism has no place in Atlanta (or anywhere) and anyone who has lived there knows better. People are moving to Atlanta by the millions since the 1970s, and the reason is it such a great place. The more upscale areas are ok if you like high rent, but it's not an issue of crime rate or quality of life to live in them.

The burbs north of Atlanta are GREAT! I live in the Vinings/Smryna area and while $$$, there's plenty to do...young crowd....numerous Cobb County schools are top notch...and you avoid the Fulton county taxes!
Most people I know live south of the City...I was born and raised in East Cobb and never plan on leaving...good airports around too...where I trained and the busy airspace was a great learning tool..RYY, PDK, FTY

vfr over the top class bravo
This thread got me thinking about Atlanta again, and the airspace around the town being so wonderful. One of my favorite things to do was to take off from Fulton County, ascend in a spiral up to 5,000 then ask approach for a "vfr over the top" clearance over ATL. If there is a better view of civilization than the view on that corridor I don't know one. You get to see the busiest airport in the world from a mile over it, you see downtown, see Stone Mountain, see Buckhead, see Turner Stadium, can see I-75/85 what a wonderful flight. And as if that is not enough, go back and do it again after dark. An experience like that is life affirming.

And EXACTLY WHAT is "you people" supposed to mean?!!
If you really want to get into it, I think Atlanta as a city is THE MOST bigoted city I've ever lived in. In the big cities up north, people tend to be much more colorblind. People rarely think about or care what race others are, myself included. In Atlanta, race is an in-your-face issue in EVERYTHING and the African Americans are the ones making it an issue. Take a look at Mayor Jackson's (the namesake of ATL airport) affirmative action laws if you don't believe me. They are 100% REVERSE DISCRIMINATION. But I guess that's ok, when the majority of the population, the entire city council and the mayor are from the same race, right?
I had NEVER been called a "cracker" until I moved to Atlanta.
I would submit that you, sir, are the bigoted one. I'd love to know why the Afircan American community allows this after everything their people have suffered through. Reverse discrimination is not equal to reparations, and two wrongs do not make a right.
