You didn't get the point kid. My point is that more people begin to realize what and who really makes this world go round. Not that the above compensates for deaths of any kind.

You’re incredibly naive if you think that’ll last any longer than the current crisis. And if it doesn’t lead to better treatment of those essential workers in the future than what’s the point in some hollow words?

for evidence, I submit firefighters after 9/11, pilots after Sully, etc.

I’m not saying it will but one can only hope that the human condition improves by a little.

i think firefighters are still pretty highly regarded. I don’t think pilots ever took that jump after sully. Sully was regarded as a hero by the public, not all pilots.

there were plenty of pilots however, who stuck their chests out because of sully’s Action. Assuming that the outcome would have been the same for them too.

I won’t call it a silver-lining but just tonight I mentioned that I personally had not seen a single political ad or such since Super Tuesday! The focus is elsewhere. Of course not watching the news and not being part of the mad social machine helps too!

At least I can pay the bills and afford kibbles for my dog. Trade school is a great choice and a great back up. Even better would be a degree that includes certificates in a trade. A few aviation universities provide a path to a 4 year, an A&P, and flight training.
Good for you. I've floated this idea to my son (still not in high school yet). I have a friend that's also an A&P/IA and has definitely been able to use it. All the best.

Kirby also said it would be foolish to not be ready to be in a position to respond quickly if demand rebounds from 50-100 overnight. While I don’t believe this will happen, at least the company acknowledges the need to rapidly back build capacity if it should rebound.

I do think this chain of events adds on 3-5 years for regional guys getting hired, and those hired likely will be back to the realm of college degree, min 1000 pic, multiple types etc and create a new population of regional lifers.

Also, for all the geniuses saying college degrees aren’t important... it’ll be the difference between you working at 7-11 and an office job with benefits/decent pay/stability etc when you’re furloughed. Get the degree, make sure it’s non aviation related. Once you get that degree, get a masters. The laziness amongst the uneducated in our field is truly astounding.

United has already said that they expect our current reductions to intensify and last several months, followed by a slower than hoped for recovery, and a smaller company as a result.

exactly, Kirby spoke out of both sides of his mouth. You can’t bounce back immediately mothballing (300) 50seaters. And I agree with you, we won’t see an instant snap back to 100%, but him making that statement just proves he’s in the same boat as the rest of us. He has no idea what the recovery is going to look like, and there are several plans, depending on what it does.

Absolutely, anyone who claims to know what the timeline and recovery looks like is the village idiot
