I have had several blue ice packs leak. They make a huge mess if you don't catch the leak quickly.

Uncle Ben's rice packs really well and you can eat it right out of the bag. If the hotel room doesn't have a microwave, you can ask the front desk to do it for you. It only takes 90 seconds.
(also you can work for express jet branded flying; we have food on every flight. I just take a sandwich or two with me and never have to pay for food)

Let's see if I can help this thread a little
I am amazed at how health concious a lot of pilots are considering how "big/fat" most of America is haha I think it s great that crews pack so healthy....I am not yet an airline pilot , but am working towards it.... I have been bodybuilding/working out since a year before college, so about 7 years....I really think that health and nutrition should be more of a focus with pilots and itd be great if they did what Police and Fire Departments are doing now which is bonuses/incentives for working out and staying healthy ( I know with the pay these days already that this would never happen, but itd be nice), it all plays a part in the human factors side of things....but anyways enough of my rant here's what I pack on an average day of flying the King Air Part 135 Chaaaataaahs...this is usually 1-2 day trips, but are easy to pack stuff(I know some have already been mentioned)....
Breakfast-
-Packet of low sugar oatmeal
-banana
-protein powderpacket (sometimes)
Mid morning snack
-apple or some sort of fruit
-packet of raisins
Lunch
-tuna packet
or
-lean meat sandwich turkey, rst beef, etc.
or
-grilled chicken (as long as oyu have ice packs)
-wheat thins or pretzles
Mid Afternoon snack
-protein bar/power bar ( I think balanc bars are great
Dinner-
Same as lunch pretty much
-Evening snack
-almonds
-cottage cheese (if it stays cold)
-peanut butter and jelly sandwich
These are just a few ideas...I dunno I know its easier on day trip or w only 1 overnight to pack , but I agree with the person that said if the hotel supplies breakfast and fruit..TAKE IT~!!! Hope I helped a little..fly safe everyone!

You guys have to check out Target as they have the latest in Archer Farms Trail Mixes. Those are awesome! They have all kinds of mixes from berry mixes to peanuts with caramel and chocolate, etc. I need the chocolate sometimes especially after all the healthy stuff, but if you look at the nutritional contents of each bag, its great for ya!
The tuna packets don't smell as long as you get the flavored stuff. I did have a Captain tell me though that he got sick off of one and has been hesistant to try them since. I'm still toughing it out but I find myself a little more on the cautious side of things.
One of my buddies buys a whole chicken from the local grocery store, pieces it all up into two different containers, then puts in some sides like rice, pasta or whatever with some veggieables and it makes out for a perfect lunch or dinner. I tried that this last trip and its awesome. Just stinks bringing an empty tupperware container along on your trips but its well worth it in the end!

I recently discovered several brands of vacuum sealed, ready to eat Indian and Thai meals that are perfect to carry along. They come packaged in a foil/plastic pouch (virtually identical to a military MRE) that is pre-cooked, and ready to eat. All one must do is heat it up- I use a hotel room coffee pot for this purpose quite effectively (actully they can be eaten cold, although its not nearly as good). They're small and compact (several can be carried easily), they do not require refrigeration, and since they're sealed, there is very little risk of spillage, etc. And best of, they're surprisingly good for what they are... that is if you like Indian and Thai meals (I know many don't). They're also quite cheap: $1.79 to about $3.95 depending on what brand/meal. They're also pretty healthy as packaged foods go. There are several brands available (Check the international section in your supermarket), but here are two that have websites:

Has anyone else tried these?
