Time will tell. Assuming it passes. I think it will eventually but maybe not immediately.
Part of my thinking is that this is just piece of getting the ATP rule adjusted. “We changed the retirement age and it didn’t do enough!”. I can’t see many guys who bid 2-4 Europe/Asia trips a month at the big 3+brown/purple decide to do two years of hub turns on a narrowbody.

Don’t underestimate what a pilot will do for money. There is also talk of the international community raising their retirement ages. We all thought that when the age was raised to 65 that few would go he distance, when in fact very few left early.

It boils down to this. Raise the age and let the current pilots be stagnant costing them millions while waiting to upgrade, or lower TT to get new pilots in. So ***** now about lowering TT because you are butt hurt you had to fly 1500 (while those senior guys got in at 250), or you can ***** that you are stuck as an F/O for 3 more years costing you about a million dollars in defined contributions at captain payscale. Lowering the 1500TT would mean immediate seniority bump and secure your upgrade. I’d gladly take that one. Just because they lower Mins doesn’t mean they lower the training standards at the training center. It just allows more applicants to apply. Either way you look at it, CHANGES ARE COMING.

Hmm, a small correction needs to be pointed out here. You seem to be under the impression that those that came before an ATP was required to be a 121 FO had it easier because they were hired at 250 hours. While it was possible and it did happen, It was not the norm at all. The vast majority had to wait until far more than 1500 hours.

In addition there were many more incidences with 250 right seat Part 121 pilots. Flying is much more safe now because of the rule. Thanks Obama

How does allowing a pilot to work an extra 2 years "cost them millions?"

You need to speak to your financial advisor and have them explain how investing and 401k compound interest works.

Why bother investing in a 401K?

I thought the theme of this conversation is that we all just want to work until we die.

I know how it works. I just don’t agree with your math.

Just an FYI if they lower the hour requirements then you better be prepared to fly as an FO for a few years while living off of food stamps. I don’t think you fully understand what the 1500 hour rule did to FO pay at the regionals. But if you want to fly right seat for less then minimum wage be my guest, I guess.
