SKYW Hiring

Since I've been at SKW we've average 18.6 a month. That's below the nation’s average. If you want to know how many pilots we need then do the math.
Based on national average:
272 a/c @ 10 pilots per a/c (5 crews) = 2720 pilots + 10% FMLA/Military/training department/etc = 2992 total pilots for normal staffing levels.
We currently have 2728 (as of 6/27) - attrition of 114 (19 per month x 6 months left) = 2614 - 2992 (normal staffing level) = 376 more pilots this year.
Keep in mind that this doesn't take into account the 2 CR9's we receive every month, the CA CR7’s nor the extra 10 a/c Midwest might give us in October.
Also, historically SKW runs thinner reserves than most. Unusually 10-15% where as most run 20-25%. What does this mean, well the national average for adequate staffing of crews per a/c is 5 (10 pilots), SKW averages about 4.1 (or 8.2 pilots) per a/c.

If only it were that easy. You'll make more than that you 2nd year at SKW. However, QOL are huge, and must be given lots of thought. I miss flying the Otter, what a plane!

Edit: Hey, since I'm boning up on Otter knowledge for my SkyWest interview, what are some of the toughest Otter questions you got asked? Just how does the ring gear on the torquemeter work, anyway?

Yeah. I was arguing with some guy over in the technical forum about the otter. He just didn't see it my way. I like my otter.

Yeah, I'm leaning heavily toward SkyWest. Pay is close enough in my mind to be considered the same, but I'd fly more and have more hard days off (meaning I can work a second job) with SkyWest. The only problem is I see a few commutes to Milwaukee in my future, whereas I'm within walking distance of the Lear job.

Does "duty-rigging" juice your pay that much? I just sat and played with the pay calculator for skywest and could not create a legal situation where $50,000 was earned, on the second year pay. (about 15k off actually.) Just curious, SKW may be my new no. 1 if work rules are that good.

As I hear it, the work rules are pretty good, but another factor might be that the way things are going, it's likely you'll see an upgrade sometime during your second year.
An old flight instructor friend of mine is rumored to be making over $30k his first year by way of picking up open time.
