I just want people to know that some of us out here are happy. Maybe some of the jobs I had earlier in my life made it easier for me to appreciate my job, I don't know.

Hey man, in case you forgot I use to fly for Horizon too. I agree it is better than prison, but one of the benefits of working for Mesa is that the job is so miserable that people leave. Pilots upgrade fairly quickly and then move on to a real job. At Horizon you are stuck in limbo. By the time you upgrade most are too old and don't care anymore. I remember from a past post that you have been there 7 years ruff math would put you around 23 when you got hired at QX. I doubt that you had a chance to endure many truly bad jobs. Perhaps that is your problem. You don't know anything else. I was 28 when I was hired there and was the youngest in my class and had the least time at 3800. A year later they started hiring the UND wonder kids. Were you one of those? Did you go to CWU and get a construction management degree? I bet that somehow you know me.

Default We Can't Control What Is Put In Front of Us

Guys:

As a young guy (23 Yrs.), I take no offense to anyone having a problem with us being "Starry Eyed" and maybe even a litlle, naive. What I do have a HUGE problem with is the attitude towards those of us who are looking at our first regional gig, and being angry at us for the requirements of 600TT/ 50-100Multi. I haven't ever had a airline interview. It's not like I set those minimums. I have no control over it! Just like you guys had no control over the fact that your minimum times were a million Hours TT and a Butt-load of Hours Multi! I can only play the cards dealt to me! The fact that some of you have this mentality towards these minimums, and this negative rhetoric towards younger pilots is disgusting!

Let's say the average times jumped up to 3000 Total and 500 Multi today, I would have to hang in there, but again, I have no control over it! So don't complain about pilots simply playing the cards they are dealt with. We can only take care of us!

C Jason,

No one is angry at the individual. We are upset with the situation. Like you said we all have to play the cards we are dealt. By lowering the minimums to such a low point it signals that the airlines are not willing to pay for experience anymore. There are plenty of high time pilots out there who are looking for work, however employers have learned that by hiring young kids they will not complain as much and will accept even lower wages and worse working conditions. It is a way of destroying the profession that we all love. Some day you will understand what we all have lost.

Thank you for that explanation. That seems to make the issue a little bit clearer. I simply misunderstood.

Thanks for the Help,

777AA,

Wow, You are making me blush. Management,,,me??? I wish. Then I could gut this industry like a fish and sell the remains to the Chinese. Just kidding. I am no management troll. I wish it were so, but I am simply a lowly laid off pilot who dreams of being an AA scab someday.

SkyHigh,

No, Ma'am, I wasn't a 'wonder kid'. I hired on at age 27, after being a captain at another regional (for whom I was sick of commuting).
No time for lousy jobs, huh? (I will always love the way you just whip out the ole pen and write all of our bios for us! You're so smart! Golly!)
You, um, ever shear Christmas trees for 8 hrs per day? Count filthy bottles and cans, with the occasional dirty diaper in the garbage bag, at a grocery store? Tow, fuel, and bug-wash a fleet of 100 aircraft in college while the rich kids played in their silly frats (don't forget to hit the other job before you go home for the night and study, by the way).
Oh, and before you accuse me of whining about my 'rough road', I didn't mind it, and it helped me to not become you. You're the one who accused me of not ever having a tough job, Sparky.

Love ya, keep 'em comin!

Fokker28,

Congratulations!! You have earned some respect from me. I too came from humble beginnings. However, if you intend to remain in that situation and are old enough to know better than what can I say? Some people are masochists. I can assure you that most of your peers at Horizon don't feel the same about the company as you. Keep patting yourself on the back but, please don't spread your mental illness to others. Most people want to have a good life and aspire to better things.

Best of Luck,

SkyHigh
