I read truth into SkyHigh's posts. It is what it is.
I just have a ppl, but I have an incredible desire to see how far I can go with flying, including flying for the airlines someday. Moreover, life is so short, and I can't imagine not even trying to make my dreams come true. Unfortunately I'll pay a heavy financial price. Well, at least I understand this before going in at full speed. I don't think I'll regret it though.

I haven't smoked in over 6 years and the THOUGHT of putting a cigarette in my mouth makes me want to vomit.

Depends where you work. At my last two jobs, the techs got mad if you asked them to get off their a$$. The nurse did EVERYTHING. You were lucky if someone came in to help you undress the bedridden gomer the medics just dropped off. Now, my mom works as a CNA on the telemetry floor and the nurses are always "too swamped" with meds to even help turn a patient.

My main hope is you don't come to this site as a 8 post PPL and get discouraged about the career based on Skyhigh's ramblings.
The truth is Skyhigh's posts are what happened to one person. See it, understand it, and don't let it happen to you. His choices in the career, and his choice to leave the career...his personal situation, was unique to him. My success and my story are unique to me, just and his story is unique to him. There are some people that just don't belong in this business. They get weeded out by the process. What gets me about Skyhigh is how he feels the need to come tell those of us who are happy with our choice what losers we are.
Again, if his story discourages you, be sure to keep reading the vast majority of this forum who, knowing what they know now, would still do it all over again.

An addiction is a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity. The term is often reserved for drug addictions but it is sometimes applied to other compulsions, such as problem gambling, pornography, and compulsive overeating. Factors that have been suggested as causes of addiction include genetic, biological/pharmacological and social factors.
People will compulsively pursue aviation to the destruction of everything else in their lives. Aviation is as addictive as gambling, alcohol or smoking. It is no different.
Problem Flying is an urge to pursue aviation despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. Problem aviation often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the pilot or others, rather than by the pilots behavior or career progression or lack thereof. Severe problem pilots may be diagnosed as clinical pathological aviators if the pilot meets certain criteria:
Is too old to realistically start a flying career.
Married with children.
In debt.
Does not have any significant career contacts.
Has obvious health issues.
Already has a good well paying job.
