A few more random thoughts on the subject...
Getting 1700 guys junior to you overnight, might be worth having 700 senior to you.
Bringing all AA flying under the APA is a very desirable outcome. The new scope: if it says American on the outside, its flown by APA pilots. Period end of discussion. (Staple the TSA guys under the AE guys
).No more starting over at 1st year pay... longevity is more important than seniority.
No more starting over and over. Doesn't matter if its a 401k, DBP, or DCP, longer longevity means a bigger payout at the end.
No more starting over. Vacation & Pass bennies are functions of longevity, not seniority.
The biggest objection I forsee is AA guys who want their squadron buddies to start in the MD-80, not the ERJ, or who think that all AA guys should be USAF UPT grads, on the Eagle side the biggest objection will be the top 5 percent who don't want to lose their coveted place at the very top of the seniority list.

hey Robthree... im all for the merge... but realistically, i just dont think it would happen.
I was going to start sending in resumes to CAL and some other places hoping there might be a small chance I could get an interview without the PIC Turbine time... but if AA and AE merged I would stay.

EAGLE was part of APA ... APA dorked them over... YOU dont want that situation again. I know... I was at eagle years ago when we all wore the SAME APA pin.... I was there when Mainline APA SWORE they would help us stand up to AA by bringing pressure to bear.... Strike vote was taken... if my fuzzy memory of things is half way clear.... the strike vote was like 98% yes...... at the 11th hour we were informed that we could expect NO support from our APA "brothers" at AA.... thus our neg committee decided a strike was not in our best interests and we settled for much less than we should have. I was doing a Nassau overnight at the time and we had contingency plans in place to get ourselves home ...etc..... That was the beginning of the end for APA representation at Eagle. Personally I think AA likes it this way... they can play both pilot groups off against the other ...etc...

Considering Reno got stapled, and TWA got stapled, (except for STL flying), a DOH merge is unlikely. However, some kind of seat protection for Eagle CAs isn't unreasonable. (But if you get bumped from the left seat of an ERJ to the right of an MD-80 you get a pay raise anyway.)

So if this merge happened, and stayed at my current regional for another 5 years, I'd have to start at Eagle still?? I mean, if the pay on the ERJ is at mainline scales, thats fine, but I want to go back to 24/hour if I already have my PIC time and qualify for a position at a mainline carrier. This deal does sounds kind of appealing though. I'm from DFW and being back there would be wonderful for me. Thats why I really would like AA eventually. But I don't want them to say I can't get AA without being at Eagle, and I don't want Eagle unless I get mainline pay, unless I come there in the next year. I'm still on first year pay at my current regional, so it wouldn't be a huge deal if i came soon.

HerkDriver,
Yeah, I phrased that badly, 2 pilot groups under APA is no better than 2 groups under ALPA (see the HP/US arbitration fiasco).
Bring all AMR flying operations under one consolidated list... nah, still doesn't have the right ring to it. Somebody else can write the slogan, but the idea is if American sells the ticket, we do all the flying. One pilot group, one list. (Yeah, yeah, I know oneWorld....)
Saxman, the idea is not you have to be Eagle before you can be American, but that there is no Eagle, there only is American. American Airlines flying ATRs, Saabs, EMJs and CRJs. No operated by, contracted by, or wholy owned by. Upgrade to the left seat of an RJ, or go be the bunkie on a 777.

Eagle pilots drive management to the bargaining table. Eagle pilots sent thousands of emails to multiple members of management. Management were receiving atleast one email every 20 min. After two days managment finally had enough and conacted Eagle's MEC to schedule talks to resolve differences. Could it be the one list or a similar senario that guarantees Eagle pilot's future opportunites at American Airlines? Stay tuned to find out. Eagle pilot's temporarily have their fingers off the send button, but we are ready to fire away if needed.
