That is what I thought, however I am looking at a trip I start tomorrow and it has 5:02 on day two followed by 8:11 Reduced rest and 4:09 block on day 3. It's a 3 day trip, but while doing a 24 hour lookback on the last two flights there is more than 9 hours blocked within a 24 hour period and only 8:11 of rest in the middle.
Looking back on it now, I guess it is legal. I was doing the look back from the point that I started each leg. Forgot the look back looks back from the completion of each leg. How sh*t is it that during both look backs from my last two legs I have 7:57 flown in 24 hours. Guess it wouldn't really matter since more than 8, but less than 9 hours can still be reduced to 8 hours.
What reason does "required rest" have if a company can build you a schedule that is "reduced?" Don't ya just love how reduced rest was designed to be an exeption due to irregular operations and now it is "Comair Standard." It may be a few years off still, but I can't wait to smile at management when nationwide min rest goes to 10 hours.
