I would not make career decisions based on what I read on an internet message board. The information you are looking for and find here, like many have said, is sometimes covered in crap. Wash off all the crap and you might have the answer you are looking for.

And don't forget that everyone here only dates supermodels

Bud stop crying about wanting "serious answers" and not "BS answers". You posted a question now just be man enough to ignore all the stuff that you deem BS and take take what you feel is beneficial and use it. You just start to sound like a baby with all this stop insulting me nonsense.
Lord knows I've posted stuff on here, been flamed, flamed back, been given good answers, been given horse puck answers but in the end I don't sit around crying about the level of answers. If I don't get what I need I rephrase the question or move on. Pretty much all these dudes on here have something good to provide you in the way of answers so recognize that........except SkyHigh.......he's just the epitomy of downer so thats about the only one I say don't bother with. Just my .02 cents.

I believe herein lies your problem. Any time you communicate with other people, especially via written word, you have to be very careful of the tone because there we, as the reader, have no other clues (like body language or voice clues) on which to gauge you or your point EXCEPT the words as YOU have written them. So if you want to halfass your typing and not give a rip about whether or not you come across as condescending, then I'm not sure why you are surprised by some of the responses you have recieved. Reference boilerpilot's post, it is SPOT ON. Do you get it yet?

And for the record, before you said you were 30something and from the military my impression was that you were an 18ish CFI who knows all there was to know about the world and is looking for the fast track no matter how many bridges you burn.

I thought you were going to say ERJ Driver!!! FWEWF!!! NO WAIT! I work for MAG. That already encapsulates the worst set of inferences possible: I am a criminal who likes to erase evidence and blame it on porn, I steal out of TSA bins... I violate the civil rights of breast feeding women (when I should be taking pictures... muahahaha!!!- you can take the boy out of MAg but you can't take the ghetto out of the boy), and for a finale I violate your GM while pouring sugar in your gas tank (had to put the Clerks reference in there somewhere). Heck, I'm not even supposed to be here today.

"Hey, nice cat, what's its name?"
"Annoying customer."

Lazy folk rarely become chief pilots.

OK, if you don't believe you said or implied that, I'll show you some of your own words:

How does one become a Chief Pilot at an airline? ... I have never been one to sit and stay at one level. If I do become an airline pilot I dont jst want to fly for 20 to 30 years.
So you don't want to just stay at one level? You want to be at a higher level than an airline pilot? You don't want to JUST fly? What's unsuccessful or wrong with JUST having hundreds of lives in your hands every day at work? Is that something that an unsuccessful person does? Is that not worth the attention of your worthy and important brain?

Ok,I dont want personal opinions of what you may think of Chief Pilots. I am loking for serious information. I am 30 something years old. I could care less if its popular or not. I have a family to take care of and I am the kind of person that wants to be successful
You don't care whether being a CP is popular or not, being CP means you're more successful than a line pilot. Oh, and the statement "I am the kind of person that wants to be successful" implies that being CP would mean success, while actually becoming an airline pilot (something that you haven't even begun progressing towards) would not.

When confronted on why you think that being a CP is the only form of success:

The same reason I equate being a Colonel with being successful. My goals are just that. Mine.
A very adult answer if I ever saw one. Me! Mine! No touch! Perhaps if you explained your reasoning a little more, you could get some constructive advice?

Everyone has their own definition of success. For some people success is being a 20 year Captain working 12 days a month. ... And my next challeneg I want to be aviation and if I go into I want to go as far as I can. i would do that for any career. I used to be a cop. If I were still doing that, I'd want to be the Chief. If I were in education, I'd wantto be a Principle.
Do I really need to keep doing this to make you understand?

I'll give you one more, and then one to leave for you to think about.

You should live to support your family. When you get over 30 years old, you will realize that
So I guess I'm not able to support my family, nor are the other mere line pilots out there.

You should not live to please others and make them like you.
I hate to say it, but honestly, you're the one who sounds like you're trying to please others. You honestly have no idea what it takes to be an airline pilot OR a Chief Pilot, and yet you want to be one? Sounds like ego to me. To hell with what it takes or if i enjoy it, I'll be a Chief Pilot one day, that's the only way I'll feel successful, you'll see!

Yours,
A lowly unsuccessful line pilot who actually manages to scrape together enough money to support his family.

P.S.: You don't care what others think about you, yet you want to win what essentially is a position reserved for friends? Oh, and you still don't get that people don't take you seriously when you type like a four year old, well, I hate to say it, but if we aren't worth the three seconds it takes to run a spell check, why should we should we show you any respect?

Ok this thread is spent....It has a very FI esque look to it and I dont see any other worthwhile contributions entering the ring.

There are also around 4 infraction worthy posts in here as well and those of you know who you are.

again: You can not post anything that directly insults another member no matter what your personal oppinions of them are and you can not use profanity no matter how many asterisks you use to hide it.

Clean it up
