Wrong lots of those routes used to be 737 routes. Also the rumors are that they will be brought down to IAH also and replace both XJT and CAL routes. IAH-SAT is one of the rumored routes and guess what, XJT doesnt do that route its all CAL 737 and 757. Bottom line is all this flying should be done by CAL pilots if the plane is painted in CAL paint.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! They're (You) an amazing pilot group who has had ALPA for a long time and long enough to have negotiated a great contract. Why doesn't anyone remember when mainline carriers offered this flying and RJs to their pilot groups and they said..."We're not flying that sh*t". Mainline carriers contracted it out and found that it could be done cheaper. If anyone is to blame its the mainline pilots from the 90's. But they couldn't have known this was going to happen.
I've got to ask though, when ALPA passes at Colgan and they begin to see improvements in work rules, compensation and continue to win flying...will the XJT guys still be ****ed? I hope not.

Does that man that XJT guys deserve to lose their flying?

i never said XJT deserves to lose anything. I was stating that a bunch of the routes the Q will be doing arent just XJT routes. These Q's will be replacing more Mainline flying as well. IF colgan gets better payrates and Unions up than the XJT pilots have nothing to complain about because the flying would then be going to a company who makes more money and is part of the raising the bar. Now mind you it will never be cool to lose flying but it would sting a little less if it wasnt to a company with sub par pay and working conditions. JMHO

has anyone actually meet a colgan pilot that says he's not going to the Q because of the pay rates. In my recent experiance talking to guys most of them dont want to go for other personal reasons, (family, commuting to ewr etc) but i havnt meet anyone who says because of the pay. And i think the reason for that is that for saab and especially beech pilots its a big pay raise, (something like 20/hr from beech to Q)

How do you figure it wouldn't make money on long routes? Because from what I see...it carries more pax than a CRJ-200 or EMB-145, burns a lot less fuel, and the crew is paid less?!? And as far as only options for a certain number more, who says they won't order more at a later date?
On another note, while I'm not in favor of the Q400 replacing other airlines' flying at all, even on one route, I see a lot of hypocrisy here. It seems a lot of RJ pilots here decry the entry of a long range turboprop for low wages, and these people fear this may degrade everyone's pay. But by the same token, isn't that EXACT same argument that mainline pilots originally said about the RJ? So the big boys have every right then to be ****ed off that you even fly an RJ at all for the same reason. Food for thought.
I have nothing against RJ pilots (I used to be one), but come on people. Everyone needs to get off their high horse and realize that until there is a TRUE industry unity among pilots, we have only so much ability (very little) to influence what the management types decide that we fly, where we go, and for how much. We all have to pay the bills, whether we fly for Colgan, RAH, XJT, AA, DL, whatever.
I do agree that a union at Colgan is an absolute necessity, but how much difference, from an industry standpoint, will it really make in terms of QOL, wages, etc.? I mean, even the airline that everyone seems to love to hate (Mesa) has a union?

Captains have made the switch, because it is a raise, regardless of if it is up to "standard" or not. Someone offers you more money than you are making now, you take it (provided the commute or a move is reasonable for you).
As far as whose flying we are or are not "taking," I think that it's wasted breath to even argue about it. These are decisions made by the pencil pushers, and nothing we do is going to fix it. Roll with the punches, make smart decisions when they are presented to you, and get on with your life.
