Its funny we all complain about the Q and how it is bringing down the "Regional" Industry, but look at whats its doing to CAL, Everyone one of those routes could be supported by a MAINLINE PAID PILOT, on a 737, instead it will be worked by pathetically paid CA's and 350hr F/Os.......... (CAL isnt charging any less because its a T-Prop either)

If anyone should be ****ed off, it should be the CAL guys.

At least a lot of the Colgan guys are doing there part and attempting once again to get a Union.

We ALL don't complain about the Q---cause most of us don't care. It is what it is.... the plane is going into service, there will be pilots to fly it, and there will be passengers riding on it. If you are going to complain about Colgan's Q rates, you should probably complain about the CommutAir Dash-8 rates (which IMO are as bad as Colgan's Q-400 rates, just a different number of seats).

CAL guys are in no position to judge---they fly 757's for $31/hr first year (plus pay for their own insurance for six months). The industry is already down, it can't be "brought down" much more unless pilots start actually paying their companies to go to work. It is up to COLGAN pilots to say no---we won't fly this until $$$ are improved. If they do it, good for them. I don't see it happening though.

CAL does not include t-prop's in their scope for a reason. THese planes are flying short routes that will never replace a 73. Ever. CAL pilots have more to worry about from 145xr's or guppy killers like the 170's. Q400 is still regional flying. FLying an rj from EWR to JAX is not.

Those are basically the same routes Express flew in the ATR back in the day.

Wrong lots of those routes used to be 737 routes. Also the rumors are that they will be brought down to IAH also and replace both XJT and CAL routes. IAH-SAT is one of the rumored routes and guess what, XJT doesnt do that route its all CAL 737 and 757. Bottom line is all this flying should be done by CAL pilots if the plane is painted in CAL paint.

I can show you 75% of all regional routes that used to be mainline routes. THen they all got replaced by rj's. Nothing new there. q400 isn't going to pick up the 5 or 6 daily IAH-SAT turns done by CAL. I'd expect to see the q400 doing more of the same as colgan now, iah-beaumont, college station, del rio, tyler, etc. I wouldn't expect to see the q in mexico. It wouldn't make money on segments that long. And it's only an option for a total of 20 more airplanes. CAL isn't the only game in town looking at this t-prop. I'd be shocked if more than 10 more went to CAL.

CAL doesn't have enough 737s to do the flying it would like to do. That is why you see overbooked crjs coming out of CRP and other hot spots that would surely benefit from a 737. So, when PCL comes in with an offer for cheap service with new airplanes, it was an easy decision for CAL.

I don't think the Q would do any of the current Saab routes in TX either since they are already matched well to the Saab. Without any route growth, Expressjet or Chautauqua routes would be more likely.

It was a CRP-y decision to put those CRJ's in CRP anyways. Can we say "weight restricted?"

The company that used to fly out of there with RJs did not have nearly the amount of weight restrictions that the new company does, due to a more robust weight and balance program for the exact same aircraft.

Things like that should have been known by CAL beforehand. If they were not known, then CAL didn't do its homework. If they were known, then it is a silly way to operate jets on a route.
