saab you're in MI right? Take a look around you man. The reason the east coast is expensive as compared to MI is because we still have an economy. MI is in shambles. The union automakers are getting laid off left and right. Houses cost less than the wood required to rebuild them. Highest foreclosure rates in the country. Unemployment thru the roof. High taxes. The list goes on.
At least you have a relatively high paying (for the area) job that allows you to live where you want to live. I'm not saying don't complain - you have every right to - but when AWAC closed the midwest bases our pilots didn't have to uproot families or lose their jobs.
I'm just trying to put it in perspective. Be thankful where you are right now!
Yes SkyWest was a 20/20 hindsight but did you see that coming? No one did. So why even mention it.

We'll see.
But I sighed up for AWAC so I could live and work close to where I like to live (Midwest) and to have the whole company shifted to the east coast has been a bad experience to say the least. For those with families it is far worse.
It is what it is but I will not be an apologist for the current sorry state of our operation - filthy planes, punctuality in the sewer, low morale, etc. Earning a couple bucks extra per hour is nice, but I'd rather have a reasonable schedule in a place I call home. And the east is just not home to me.
Anyway, I am leaving for Switzerland tonight!
Back to the old buddies and family over there for a week in the mountains! That is one advantage of our business, at least if I get on the flight!

Where do you currently work?
I wouldn't go to SKW or RAH if I got furloughed. Both good companies, but as Toilet said (OMG, I'm agreeing with Toilet!), I'm only doing the regional thing once. I think I made a solid decision by coming to XJT, and if I get sent out on the street, I'd probably go instruct until recall or go to a frac as I previously said.

I'm just starting IOE but I have my answer ready. I would be back to river guiding in the Grand Canyon before my last airline check fails to clear. Not sure why I left there in the first place but I got a lot wrapped up in this flying gig now so I'll give it a shot.

I'd go back to my alma mater in Daytona and say I'm baaack.....did ya miss me? Seriously though...instruct there, or break the glass on my MBA diploma that says "break if furloughed." Make more money or keep flying....hmmm....guess that's always the question.

What are you talking about you just said you see several of your colleagues moving off. There's your foot in the door. Get on your company forum and get their emails if you don't already have their numbers. It's up to YOU to make the contacts. Every person you fly with is a potential contact. Get in touch, don't be afraid to send an email or give a call.
