No no, walking away from it = good landing. Airplane re-usable = great landing :)

My first flight/landing in IOE was firm to say the least. Was told in the sim not to flare the saab, so guess what, I didn't  I thought we hit so hard that we were back in the air. I did hit the touchdown zone, literally. One of the passengers asked the flight attendant for her to land the plane next time.
Just when you think you have it figured out in the Saab, the plane proves you otherwise.

p.s. So true, I seem to greased it in the worst weather, but not when the weather is great

That's very true with the Saab! You do the same thing everytime. Sometimes it hits firm and other times you have to look for the "blue" light to know if you are on the ground. -saab guys know what the blue light is!

One passenger made a comment when deplaning. Feeling pretty bad about this, anyone had the same thing happen? I know no one will fly perfect all the time, but man, that was terrible.

The DC-8 hits hard even when you are good. I'm not and it still hits hard <G>
I asked one DC-8 driver (and fellow carrier Naval Aviator) how to fly the 8 in close before I started training, he said it was "all a mystery below 30 feet"

I have finally given up on trying to make smooth landings in the q400, it's just not gonna happen.

I've gotta agree with every post here regarding the Dash. Any greaser is pure luck, or, a wet runway. If you'd like to cure your guilt of occasionally pounding one on, come jumpseat on a Dash-8. You will never feel bad again! There's never a question whether you've touched the ground...

flaps 35 if you have some runway to play with has a CHANCE of being smooth, but only if the clouds open up and the dash gods smile down upon you.

Yeah, those EWR controllers love it when you Q400 boys slow to 130 still 10 miles out and float for days before touching down 3000 feet down the runway and then rolling all the way to the end. Watching those "smooth" landings just makes their day;)

drilled the 145 on GSO one day. pax told me he did not like the landing. i said, "neither did we, we're gonna go back and try it again."

i've also had a few captains announce over the PA after a hard one, "ladies & gentlemen, we have arrived."

Emb170man 03-18-2008 06:33 AM

The 170 can be greased fairly easily...that being said. 2 weeks out of IOE going into IAD (19L). A ncie 11,000ft runway to play with, calm winds, good vis...sounds easy. I slammed that sucker on so hard I popped 3 overhead bins open. Had the Capt in stitches as he told the folks that there was a massage parlor in B terminal and such. Hasn't happened since, but man that one sticks out in the mind.
