Sure things are not so well at Pinnacle with the contract issues, then again not every regional is safe from our economy, pilot groups, etc. But come on man...

Thanks for all the info from the other guys, as well. I am thinking of eagle too since I could live in DFW without the commute. I have gotten to know many Pinnacle pilots and have friends that work there and absolutely love it.
Have you checked to see if they also keep whips and latex in their closet? If they love it here they must have masochistic tendencies.

Spooled is bitter about Pinnacle. So am I. While I don't always agree with everything he posts, you asked for advice and he gave it to you. Don't criticize him for sharing his honest opinion with you.

I would not come to Pinnacle until we get a contract. It is just too bad right now and the longer we go without a contract, the worse it is going to get. There are some good things about being here but the negative far outweighs the positive. That will change once we get a new contract but for now, my advice is to stay as far away from this place as possible.

One final point to consider; We have authorized a strike by a 99.39% majority. I believe this is the highest strike authorization vote in ALPA history. Ask yourself two questions:

1) How bad does it have to be for 99.39% of pilots to vote to strike?

2) Do you really want to risk being a new hire or probationary pilot when we walk? Probationary or not, you would be expected to walk just like everybody else.

Just a friendly word of advice... That is the type of attitude that makes people cross picket lines and SCAB. I'm NOT suggesting that coming to Pinnacle is scabbing or that you would ever cross a line however, I would be careful about making a statement like the above. Some people may interpret it to mean that you would do anything for a job...

As for domicile assignment, you should find out in class.

Just trying to tell you the truth man. Do you know how many people lately have told me they regret coming to Pinnacle?

With the just get out comment - As big of a dump as Pinnacle is - you have to understand you cannot do that in this industry. I don't want to take a pay cut (even though it would be a small one), I don't want to be on reserve. Thank god I have 17 days off, or I would probably quit.

If I knew what I now know about Pinnacle, I would have stayed at my last employer and got on with a REAL company. Don't get me wrong, the Pilots are Pinnacle are great! Management are the screw ups.

Anyway come here! You'll be the 5th person I get to say "I told you so" to, when you come back whining about this place.

Take the advice of your elders.

AGREE 110% !!!!

You know pilots that absolutely love PINNACLE ??????? I need to know their names, we need to pull their medicals ASAP. They can face serious charges for flying under the influence.

Anyhow, I won't tell you don't come, but if you could choose between Mesaba and Pinnacle, you got to be high to choose Pinnacle. If what you really want is to live in Memphis then Mesaba is a much better option, with a much better outlook at least for the next 3-5 years. Growing. Quick upgrades (at least in the Saab), new 76 seaters coming every month, 17 200s from Pinnacle. No strike ahead......Own by Northwest, soon to be "Mega Delta".

Why didn't I go to Mesaba myself? The answer is as ironic as life itself like applying and not hearing back from them 'till I was taking my checkride with Pinnacle. I also had other regionals calling me about the same time. I figured, I'm tired, I passed my checkride, I'll stay at Pinnacle, how bad could it be anyways.......

By the way, the pilot group is great and when the aircraft door shuts, I'm a happy camper. I enjoy the actual flying.

Reserve in Memphis is at least 6 months if you want to hold a hard line.
If you are willing to take a high speed line, maybe 2-3 months

I know I want to quit, and ditto 17 Days off is the only reason my resignation papers weren't in back in mid April. And I probably wont be around by the time winter comes around.

9 Months ago I was in the position saying
"It cant be that bad at Pinnacle. Its only if you commute."
Ohh, but it is. People that have been here for years say this is the worst they have ever seen it. It is too bad too, we have really great people, we are just tired of being cra**ed on. You would do the 1400 of us a favor and pilots in general by not coming here. I know its not what you want to hear but there it is.

Living in base is so worth it. So if you want to move back to DFW come to Eagle. I bailed on Pinnacle because I love where I live and the woman and I didn't want to move to Memphis. Best of luck with your decision.

That is a true statement. DFW for some reason has a reputation for being a tough place to commute. At least I know of couple airlines have crew bases. If you plan to commute, prepare to give yourself some backup plans, i.e. fly to someplace close and drive, or do a 2-leg commute... Be flexible, and be conservative. Sched at Pinnacle isn't very receptive to the concept of pilots commute to work. If i remember correctly, there was a direct flight from msp->dfw on the rj, however, i'm not sure if that's still accurate.

You can interpret what I say anyway you want. I have worked for a living and don't mind eating crow to fly. The wheels are falling off of this industry and being able to stay in a jet is better than not.

As for picketing? Not a problem. My dad did it and so will I if necessary. That's not the question or what I stated. I would rather have it rough and eventually strike than be unemployed. Having a opinion differs from taking action.

A contract will happen eventually. If it takes a strike so be it. But there are plenty of folks out there that would love to have a bad job flying then be out of aviation. I would never cross a picket line but I have no intentions of ever working concrete or at a feed mill again.

And they would do it for free... Thats the sad part. But then there are some who just don't know any better. The definition of a good quality of life, differs GREATLY in different parts of the country..

Being a pilot is NOT what its made out to be.
