I believe UAL doesn't have that many 73 routes out of LAX with most of their LAX narrowbody haul being 75/A319/320. I think SFO does the majority of their 73 west coast flying.

I could be wrong but when I'm in LA, which is a lot, I hardly ever see a 73.

I guess I was thinking of the quote below from the sapa site. So much stuff going on I can't keep it all straight.

LAX/IAD...if I was a guessing man, especially since CC said that UAL was RFPing 20 CRJ200 and 20 CRJ700s from Mesa's imminent downfall...

BTW I never heard that said from CC myself so I don't know if he did. I was just posting the quote.

I highly expect SKW to be a very important part of UAL's restructuring and I do mean in a good way. We will receive many new routes due to their reduction in 73 flying but I would much rather that flying stay with mainline. The fact remains that UAL loves SKW.............say what you want but that has been historically proven and continues to be shown time and time again.

MKE DO NOT have priority over other domiciles getting into LAX. It is a new base and its opening, for the purposes of this discussion, is completely unrelated to the reductions in MKE. LAX will be staffed by the most senior people in each seat who want to bid for it. MKE pilots WILL have the ability to bump pilots who are in the same seat and junior to them out of other bases.

Now as far as training goes, you are correct, there will be no classes, and as a result senior EMB guys will not be able to bid LAX.
LAX is not a new base... it's been open for a few years now. It's just changing from a reserve base to a regular base. Displaced pilots don't bump other pilots "out of a base." The base will just be overstaffed for a while. When I got displaced out of PDX back in '01, I got to choose whichever base I wanted to go to. If I chose to let Skywest position me, then I got the incentive pay. Otherwise, I just chose to go where I wanted and they paid my moving expenses. Just like when Houston closed.

Moving expenses are only paid to those that go to the new domicile within the first two months of opening. SkyWest could wait until Decemeber or later to increase the size of the base without having to pay moving expenses. They did this with ORD when they opened it up as a domicile in June of 2004. Started with only 15 crews, even though there was a lot more flying going through ORD. By the end of the year it had tripled in size and now has over 200 crews.

On the Captain side it looks like there's a high demand for LA. Top 15-20 with a bid in have 20+ years with the company. Junior Captain will be at least 8+ years.

I disagree with you. I believe there was an United RFP sent out earlier this year which SKW didn't receive. Shuttle, AWAC, GoJets, XJT and others were bidding on what appeared to be mesa flying.

From all the rumors I've heard (which obviously are just rumors) we have as big a chunk of United flying as we're going to get.

I think that would be a rumor. Everyone loves to start rumors that Mesa is losing their flying. I don't think they lost any United flying. I am not 100% positive on it but I would guess it was one of those Mesa is going under fast rumor. They are struggling like a lot of others but still around. Which is actually shocking since they are bleeding in Hawaii.

I also heard that SkyWest was bidding on some US Airways (Mesa) flying but obviously Mesa didn't lose that either because Mesa is still in PHX in mass quantities. The rumor was that October 08 was when the change would occur but I am starting to think it was all false.

You can almost always assume when it involves Mesa losing flying to ....fiill in the blank with any regional, it is false. They are usually started by a ****ed off former FO from Mesa. I know they hated it there but what do they expect with 300 TT and 50 ME. Sorry to get off track but just wanted to point out that there are a million Mesa losing flying rumors out there. They are usually not true.

This has nothing to do with Mesa's flying. As UAL decreases their West Coast 737 flying there is only 1 airline ready to pick up the slack. TSA, RAH, GoJet, Mesa, XJT and AWAC will not benefit from SFO and LAX UAL flying; however they will benefit if Mesa loses ORD and IAD flying.

Also keep in mind that we have personnel, equipment and operations already in place out west, this will benefit UAL when it comes to cost. Now I'm not talking about a lot of flying but it will be some.

US Airways is stuck with Mesa through 2011 and from what I've been told the contract has no loop holes when it comes to performance, unlike what DAL has built into contracts. So any US Airways/Mesa flying that’s out for bid would have to be additional flying.

BTW, mark my words, SKW will end up with US Airways flying by 2011. That is if US Airways is still around.
