RAH "Chautauqua" New Base, St. Thomas
#51
At any case, this thread is going nowhere because I do not realistically see DAL using E145s for these routes. In today's economics it just does not make any sense. Besides, like Johnso29 says it is not feasible from a regulatory and from a pure safety standpoint. 5 to 6000 ft runways are inadequate for most part 121 jets. More logical choice from a business standpoint would be to use Saabs or Q400s.
We should all hope that the economy does not spiral down any further because if that happens we will see major layoffs at airlines and the infamous Furlough will revisit all airlines including regionals like RAH and others.

It's been going on for years. "121 rules won't really allow that" is an arbitrary statement. Don't allow what? XX amount of gas? We don't know what XX is. You don't have to have your tanks dripping with fuel. How much fuel do you think it needs for a 15-30min flight? DAL already does and has been doing it. They seem to think it's does make sense.

I distinctly remember needing Flaps 18, E-T/O on a 145XR out of LEX on a warmer day with a full boat. And that's a 7000' runway and a more capable aircraft than any of the 135s or other 145s in airline configuration.
I don't buy EYW without a severe weight restriction, sorry.

You can't tell TD that. He's always right.
He knows it's not feasible to hop E135/E145s around the Islands, but he can't be wrong. They could probably get a 747 off an 7000ft strip with very little gas, but you don't see anybody punching 747s in and out of MDW. It's not feasible TD. What about aborted takeoffs, V1 cuts, and other abnormalities? It won't handle those well. Why don't you think about Comair in LEX TD? How'd they do? (God rest their souls.
RIP) It's not feasible TD. Give it up.
