First All-Black Female Flight Crew Flies To N
#72
Dear God, the statements I read from some people I thought were somewhat insightful and rational, are just plain ignorant and racist. It's like they are coming from "people" that are still draging their knuckles on the ground. Is this the example of some of the "best and brightest" the HUMAN RACE can produce?.
Just the fact that some of you demean, downplay, and down right discount this very historical event in the name of "your race" shows the world how ingrained racism is still rooted in this country. One crew -again ONE CREW- out of the countless perhaps millions before them that just happen to be of a different skin color, and some of you do not see the siginificance, nor historical achievement this cause IN THE NAME OF THE HUMAN RACE AND EQUALITY. But worse yet, some of you are ready to portray in such a light in order to make THE FACT that it happen and it got the attention it deserved, into some sort of morbid reverse racist situation or some kind of quota end result. Not the fact that a group qualified individuals did the job they were trained for, but just happen to black females.
Just about every behavior and human character in this world is learned form the ones that taught you from childhood, most likely your parents. You are their end result, as your children will be yours. With that said, how long will it be before events like this are a none issue for the rest of us?.
Ladies, if any of you are reading this, congratulations on your history making flight. As sure as we are tomorrow is coming, this event will also have a tomorrow.

It wasn't even random. On the company message board, one of the schedulers congratulated her scheduling supervisor for "pairing them up to make history". It was intentionally set up by ASA to grab some publicity at the end of "African American Heritage Month". They were used by the company for PR. How sad.

I apologize on behalf of all intelligent and professional Auburn grads for the statements of Mr. ohplease. They in no way represent the beliefs of any Auburn University aviation professional that I know.
Congrats to the crew, very nice milestone to see.

Seriously, that's great they made history and it's a testament to how far women and blacks have come, but we're never going to be truly equal as a society until this isn't news.

I'm sorry, I don't see anything remotely racist anywhere in this thread. The people who are saying that this isn't that big a deal aren't racist; in fact, I'd say they're completely opposite of the word "racist." In my opinion, why is it a big deal if a black female flies a plane? It isn't. She's just a pilot just like I'm a pilot. Black female captain? That's cool, she obviously worked very hard at getting to be where she is, but she's not "overcoming adversity" by hanging out at ASA waiting for her number to be called to go to upgrade. There are lots of female captains and lots of black captains these days. I've flown with both types and couldn't care less if they have a darker skin pigment or an extra X chromosome. They fly the plane the same way I do.
Seriously, that's great they made history and it's a testament to how far women and blacks have come, but we're never going to be truly equal as a society until this isn't news.
