I have 950 hours on the ATR-42.... I found it a fun airplane and easy to fly. Obviously others have other opinions.

To put it in even more perspective, commuting out of SJU to just about anywhere can be tough, especially with the kind of schedules they have. If you are making first officer pay, it is pretty hard to justify.You might actually be better off trying to find another job if you are really connected to being in the NE.

On the other hand, above statement has a ring of truth. If you are not married, no kids and no real ties where you are now, going to SJU should be a awesome experience for you that I bet many of those people on furlough would be happy to have. You really need to try to hook up with some people down there and spend time looking for a decent place to live. It can make all the difference.

How does it fly? It is alot like the city bus in that movie Speed when they have to jump the gap in the freeway- its about that graceful in flight. I think the people on here who have said its a fun airplane are the type who would enjoy doing that. It's not a "pilot's airplane," its more like holy @#$% did you see that?!?!! I think it really is a fun plane though.

Every time you make a power adjustment, you got to re-trim it. The ATRs that AMR operate are getting warn down. If the GPU is not putting out perfect power, the entire electronic system is subject to a psychotic episode. You might even think the entire avionic stack is going to catch fire during one of those episodes. Sometimes it likes to do random TCAS test. I have even seen it do random stick shaker test. No HOTEL mode = hot ass cockpit. The captains like to ***** at the rampers every time they park because it is cumbersome and rampers are trying to do some precision parking job. If you have a bad landing you can avoid all contact with passengers by hoping out the forward cargo compartment.

ATR = good times.

Anyone know the DOH for the most junior line holder on the ATR in DFW? I'm working on my displacement list for the next one and debating between DFW ATR or ORD CRJ/EMJ as my top choice.

It's a tough call right now considering that about half of those that were awarded it on the big displacement last fall are still in training. Probably won't be able to tell for sure for the next couple of months.
