I think that link is a typo. From other articles I've read RAH is not buying Frontier but buying 100% of the equity in frontier. By adding XX amount on top of the amount frontier owes for DIP financing and the $150mil RAH leveraged against them this apparently will make RAH the owner of the aircraft, facilities, gates etc. Since there are multiple versions of this story out right now I don't know which one is accurate. If this is an equity grab it will be exactly what I and several others predicted when everyone called BB, and some of us, crazy for thinking giving Frontier DIP financing in the past was a smart move.
Just like with US Airways the gates alone are worth their weight in gold. I wouldn't be surprised if after the restructuring of F9 you see some assets being sold to those in the area that would be very excited to get them (Southwest and United). Just my crazy thoughts about an even crazier world.

Its likely going to end up like Indy air and XJT, especially in this operating environment.

Or the mainline partners won't mind subsidizing a Frontier that is able to undercut SWA...especially out of Denver. Basically, they all have a stake in Frontier. Together they can push subsidize ticket prices that SWA won't be able to financially match.

Do you really think a saavy businessman like Brian Bedford would elect to go down this path if it were to put his revenue gravy train at risk? A more likely situation is he knew one or more codeshares were going to shrink or disappear before the end of 2009 and he's hedging his bets to provide some value for RJET shareholders (which is his job)..

None of these "worst case scenarios" most of you guys are alluding to will happen. BB knows what he's doing and he keeps proving it over and over to the industry that capitalism sucks for some people and is great for others. To be a Republican is to believe in this system and that its just business. You can root for the guy, BB, to go down in flames or you can be mature and wait to see what happens. But bad mouthing their pilots and how Republic is the Devil is just showing me how freaking immature a large percentage of pilots here are.

RAH spending cash...like there is no tomorrow....Obviously legacy airlines, are spending wayyy to much for these code share agreements....and that is maybe why they are showing negative profits, while the airlines that do not code share , like air tran, southwest, spirit, jetblue, are very profitable.....just maybe?? if legacy airlines had not farmend out 50% of the U.S. domestic market they could maybe be profitable.....

Republic Airways to Serve as Equity Sponsor for Frontier’s Exit from Bankruptcy
INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Republic Airways Holdings (NASDAQ/NM: RJET) announced today that it has agreed to be the equity sponsor of Frontier Airlines’ plan of reorganization. The plan, which is subject to bankruptcy court approval and various conditions, would allow Republic to purchase 100% of the equity in the reorganized company for $108.75 million.
If approved and completed, the plan will result in Frontier’s successful exit from Chapter 11, at which point it would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Republic Airways, alongside the other Republic operating companies: Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America.
“Thanks to the hard work of its employees, Frontier has made tremendous strides during its restructuring process, recently posting its sixth straight monthly operating profit despite challenging economic conditions,” said Bryan Bedford, chairman, president and CEO of Republic Airways. “Adding Frontier to the Republic portfolio of operating companies is an opportunity for both companies to build on recent successes and strengthen the Republic organization for the benefit of all stakeholders.”
Frontier’s proposed plan of reorganization was filed today with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Frontier has also filed a motion to approve the investment agreement with Republic, which is subject to higher and better proposals under a court-supervised auction. A hearing at which Frontier will seek court approval of the investment agreement and proposed auction procedures has been scheduled for July 13, 2009. Frontier currently expects to conclude the auction process and emerge from Chapter 11 during the fall of 2009.
The proposed plan of reorganization provides for general unsecured creditors to receive $28.75 million in cash. An additional $40 million of the sale proceeds would be applied as repayment of the outstanding DIP loan.
