That would be good news.
this is getting very old. either take a big pay cut to keep your pilots employed or charge twice as much for the price of the tickets to keep the flying. all mainliners are under the delusion that all flying is there's. wait, the CO pilots will be complaining soon the UA is taking over flying that was once theres. while you are at it, get rid of NAFTA and keep manufacturing jobs here in the U.S. where the money does more good than buying something from a fraud company passing off as a U.S. company while everything they sell is made in China, etc.

On the whole "RJs replacing mainline" theme. Keep in mind this was Mesa's flying that ExpressJet took over. 50-seat RJ flying at that. That scope was handed over DECADES ago and voluntarily I might add. Though giving all the flying back to mainline would be a dream come true for mainline and regional guys alike, we still need to count this as a plus. ExpressJet has an industry leading contract, even after taking a concession last year. For once the bar just got raised a little further rather than taken down.

As for the Mesa folks I'm sorry for the loss in all this, I have a few friends from school still there. While in the short term it's a job lost, in the long term it may help make this career just a little bit better.

It seems like a step in the right direction albeit a very small one. I'm not sure how big the difference in pay is at Mesa vs. XJT but I'm thinking if Mesa pays poverty wages as you stated then XJT pays poverty wages plus 4%.

As sad as I am that my airline blew it on securing this flying, congrats to all the XJT guys this brings back off the streets.

I think the hourly rate is 10-15% higher at xjet, plus the rest of the contract.

Isn't new flying at Express carriers supposed to be offered to United furloughees?

It's not new flying... It's mesa flying being redistributed.

Only if said carrier is hiring. At this point with 347 on the street even with this CPA it might be a while before we start hiring again. That being said, I would have no problem offering the furloughed UA guys preferential hiring after all the recalls are back on property, but I can't speak for my company or my peers.

Yes, my point exactly. The wages are still not good. Poverty plus 10% may be a step in the right direction but not good.

No one is implying that the circumstance is a dream come true for all in the industry, but it is a step in the right direction. When companies with better than average contracts/wages get the CPA's, the ones that stand to lose the most are guys like J.O., Hulas, and Bedford, who pride themselves in paying as little as possible under the worst contractual circumstances.

Ideally, all flying should be done at mainline carriers, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
