CRJ first trip @ FL410
#41
The 135/145 will do it as long as you stay ahead of the curve. Get behind and you're gonna have to step climb it or maybe hold 500fpm for a while. I always have to laugh a little bit when I watch guys get a few knots fast in the climb and then get all ambitious with their climb rate just to bleed all that extra speed off and then some. Better to just keep those few knots for when you get into the upper 20's-mid 30's.
Now the XR, that is a different beast. She'll go right on up in pretty much any weight/temp condition without a lot of babying.

Scary stuff, but that is profile.

Comair was doing a JFK-AUS (1320 miles) in the CRJ 900. Nobody should have to sit in the back of a CRJ for that long! And even worse, Pinnacle is doing a ATL-STX flight (1638 miles according to DAL, 1423 great circle miles as per Airnav) a couple times a week, block 3:55! Insane!

Tony, I hope you didn't move that far away just to fly a an airplane?

Guess I'm missing something here, (thanks Tony for the cool pics), but WHY would you want to take a -200 to FL410? This thing climbs like Oprah on a rope-ladder, and topping weather...well, that usually means turbulence (bad ju-ju in this flight regime). The Bob Hoover statement was great! A little extra in the back pocket can save your arse.
Food for thought...manufacturer limitations may have inherent safety margins, but they're established with a brand new plane/engines by a test pilot wearing a parachute

3100 hours here on the 200.... had it up to FL390 pre-restriction. Scared the bejesus out of me. Any bump you hit and it just sinks in. All I wanted to do was get back down lower in some thicker air. The CA couldn't feel it though- didn't understand why I was nervous. Go figure.
I was also the last guy to fly with the Pinnacle 3701 CA before their fateful flight...

I can definitely tell that you've been in this neighborhood !!! I thought that Dakar, Bamako, Naimey, and Accra Control all beat out Lagos / Kano Control.
We had Delta up our tailpipe, one from Abuja with a tech stop in Dakar (then JFK), in a B757-200), and the Lagos B777 non-stop to ATL. Everybody uses 126.9 as a unicom in the flight levels.
Couldn't get Dakar CTL on VHF 129.50, so I had to use HF 6.535. I think they could hear me, but I just got a hollow mumbling noise.

Why are the flight directors different? I thought all CRJ's were the same avionics-wise (unless options were installed say like the HF radios, or second FMS, etc). That's just bizarre to see that. What else is different on your plane Tony?
