The check on (or near if the 15th is a weekend) the 15th is always the same. It will be 36 hours at your pay rate.
The Check on the last business day of the month is 36 hours plus per diem and any additional hours from the previous month. If you credit 92 Hours in October, your November 30 check will be: 36 Hours Base Pay 20 Hours Retro Pay (92 hours minus 72 hours paid out in October as base pay) If you are on reserve and do not break guarantee, the extra 3 hours (rsv guarantee is 75) will be on the end of the month check. Income during training is pretty good compared to the first few checks on reserve. 24/7 per diem at 1.80 an hour really adds up. It'll be a few pay checks at only base pay before per diem and overages catch up with you once you make it to the line. I wrote my budget (and still do) to reflect 75 hours of pay each month plus 200 per diem. If you are going to a base where you may not fly a lot on reserve then you may want to adjust that per diem figure. I have been at Eagle about 3.5 years and have averaged 92 hours of pay each month since completing training. This includes one worked vacation and one part-time line month. You can figure your gross pay by multiplying first year pay (25.08) times your budget number, then add per diem 1.80 times your budget number. After Jan. 1 the new numbers should be 25.45 and 1.85 Takehome pay is a bit trickier to estimate as per diem is not taxed for any sequences where you overnight. Daytrips and ready reserve where you go home that night are taxable. I put first year numbers into my spreadsheet and came up with the following. Estimating 75 Hours of Pay and 200 Hours per diem. Tax/Income/Budget TAFB 200 Per Diem Hr Rate Stnd Deduct 10,900.00 GRTR 75 $1.80 $25.08 Taxable Mo Gross Mo Gross Yr $902.88 $978.12 $2,241.00 $26,892.00 $26,892.00 Taxable Yr $1,881.00 $22,572.00 Taxes IL State $647.16 Soc Sec $1,399.46 Medicare $327.29 Fed 10% $2,257.20 Fed 15% $0.00 FALSE Fed 25% $0.00 FALSE Total Taxes $4,631.12 After Tax $22,260.88 $1,855.07 Monthly Annually Union Dues $34.11 $409.34 I think it's 1.95% Roth 401K $131.67 $1,580.04 Contribute 7% to maximize the company match Medical 1 $109.18 $1,310.16 Half of Emp +1 Rate for 2011 Medical 2 $109.18 $1,310.16 other plans from ~50~130 per person Dental $15.76 $189.12 Dental for Emp +1 Total $529.00 $6,348.05 Final Takehome Pay Estimate Monthly First Year $1,326.07 $15,912.83 This should be pretty close. My tax numbers may not have been updated since the previous tax year but I think everything is fairly close. Remember that we may have a large income tax increase for 2011 also. |
Wow, just think what you would make at tsa, great lakes or Mesa.

A couple of questions... 1) How long from call to interview these days? 2) How long from interview to class? 3) What is the training schedule like for ERJ and location for each training event? 4) Heard a whisper of at home computer based training similar to Compass school for the first part of training. Any truth to that? 5) What is life as a FO ORD ERJ pilot for the first year or two like? I know sitting reserve but I need more details... Thanks to all replies in advance. I appreciate your effort to answer my questions!

Ya I see that. That's my bad. Not my intention. Just trying to squeeze some fresh info out of these Eagle folks. Now on with discussion...

1. I got the call 3 weeks after my interview 2. Took me 2 months from interview to class 3. Training schedule for ERJ: -1 week in indoc -1 week of CBT in your home -1 week of CBT in AA Academy -1 week of ground school -I think after that is Written & Oral test -Couple of days in CSI (cockpit systems integration) -Sims -Checkride -Aloft training 4. We are the second group taking the CBT. I don't know about Compass but it's pretty nice the CBT. 5. I can't tell you since I'm not yet in the line. Hehehehehe  I'm in my 1 week of CBT in home so if something is missing in the schedule I apologize. There you go..the thread is ON again. :D |
Thanks for answering those questions! I knew somebody had it in them

Figured it wasn't worth another thread... thought i'd ask here.
I'm currently a reservist for the Air Force and will be for a while... think this could hurt my employment opportunities with any regional? Kinda concerns me that it would |

Kinda concerns me that it would I highly doubt it would hurt your chances, most people I know in hiring would look on it as positive with regards to your character and dedication. Thats just my 2 bits though. Good luck. |

I was in the guard when I got hired (actually still on active duty). There are plenty others still doing the same. You're on the Vipers over at Carswell right? You'll miss a couple UTA's during training, but you can make those up. When you get to your base, just bring a copy of your UTA schedule and the CP will get it into the computer. Also, if you deploy or do your annual TDY, just drop a copy of your orders and you're covered. Piece of cake bro. |

PilotJ3, Whats aloft training?? ;-)
|
Not Aloft, it's LOFT. Line Orientated Flight Training. They do a typical flight between JFK and DCA or somewhere like that. It's basically just to let you see how it all comes together for a flight before you hit the line. 1 2hour sim session.

we are all terminated, does that sound about right? |
American will expand its presence in present and new markets with there new enhanced interline agreements with Jetblue, WestJet and our new partner Republic (Frontier).
We will be accepting JAL B777's at AA but increase the parking of S80's as we now can cover the domestic market with interline agreements. AE is spun off to the AMR shareholders. Shareholders will get 25% in the new AE for there stock split. Immediately BA/IB and Jetblue each will buy 25% of the new AE and AMR will have 25%. The remainder will be held buy the shareholders. The new AE will enter in long term feed for AA and there new subdivision will enjoy an interline agreement similar to Jetblue. AE is already a oneworld member and will continue with enhanced feed to our oneworld partners, especially now with the new ATI with BA/IB and JAL. |
CRJ or ERJ ORD. If offered both as a new hire which would you choose and why? Does one have a better schedule? Longer reserve? Reserves getting used? Etc... Thanks
|
Did I miss something about a new partnership with Republic/Frontier??

To Go or Not to Go
I was hired at Eagle in 08 and was based in BOS which was great because I live in NH. I'm based in ORD now and I actually got my first line this month (thanks xmas) and hope to at least get a composite next month. I have about 250 under me now company wide.
Question I have an interview with a fractional to fly PC12s out of NH. Most of you know who I'm referring to. I've weighed the pro's and con's about each job. Money, QOL, future of each company. I'm torn between leaving eagle now for supposedly greener pastures. If I leave now how many think I may regret it with the movement we're seeing at Eagle? Are these the last golden days of AE or is there a decent future ahead? |

Fracs? >What is the pay/schedule advantage at the PC-12 outfit? >Do you have a family? I know of people over here in the west coast that fly/manage PC-12's and make $90-150K a year. I think its a great airplane to network into a corporate job, as many owners begin flying fractionals to get a taste of owning. Plus PC-12's don't require large suitcases for the most part. Best advice I ever heard from a former Eagle Captain was, "Get out of Eagle as soon as you can, never be blinded by the word "seniority", since that will hold you back from advancing your career". He's now a Captain on a Gulfstream G4 and Citation based in San Diego making twice the pay he would have earned at Eagle and spends more time at home. Everybody's situation is different, just weigh the pro's and con's and you'll make the right decision for yourself. |

I did a little over a year in NYC but right now my seniority there would suck so I had to chase it out to ORD.
I do have a wife and we are looking at having kids in the next couple years. I would go from a 45 min drive to BOS/2.5 hr flight to ORD...to a nice 45 minute drive. The goal was always to go corporate/fractional but at this point I'm trying to figure out the best way to get there. I have 2100 TT 650 Turbine 900 Multi 1300 PIC. I'm not sure if another year at Eagle would help me out that much if I can go and get some 135 PIC. I am basically telling my self not to be blinded by seniority and to just make the jump but it's easier said than done. |
Upgrades are around the corner.
|
I'm still probably 900 from an upgrade...I think my seniority is in the upper 2600's or lower 2700's. I don't see the current movement we've seen continue consistently for another 2 years. It would be to say that half of the current eagle is leaving.

You would be going to a fractional job, so I think that alone, helps you in the future to get on with corporate/fractionals vs. staying at the airlines. Fractionals/corporate flying is all about customer service which you will gain if you haven't previously worked 91/135. Now will the PC-12 be single pilot? If not, how long until Captain upgrade? If it is single pilot PC-12 flying in the Northeast, I'd say that looks pretty damn good on a resume to Netjets, Flexjet, etc. I would get in contact with a recruiter from the fractionals and see what they have to say if that helps to clear things up. Good luck on your decision, it's never easy when it comes to career moves. |
I know the company you are thinking about. Pay is about the same as an eagle FO, and scheds are 7on/7off. But if Corp/frac flying is your goal then I would jump for it. Even if you want to go to the airlines later it would be possible with pc12 PIC. My buddy got on at jetblue with only caravan PIC. Good luck in PSM!

Personally, I'd opt for the ERJ. The pay is the same for FO's. We have over 200 ERJs and less than 50 CRJs. Once you bid a jet FO position you can't bid the other jet in most cases, unless displaced. Long term, there will be more lines and trips to trade with if you are on the ERJ in ORD. You may spend a little longer on reserve in the ERJ, but not long as we will hire 300 in 2011. No matter where your life takes you, you would be able to commute to the corners of the US if you bid the ERJ. Eagle seems to be unsure about the utilization of the CRJ fleet. DFW, ORD, NYC, it's all up in the air right now. You don't want to be chasing equipment while junior. Hope this helps, remember it's just how I see it. Get some more advice before choosing.

Thanks for the info. I have an interview coming up at the end of the month so I should probably just focus on that first:). I just like to gather all the information I can to make the best choices for my situation. How long is the call out for reserve? I'm from MKE, wondering if ORD reserve is doable from here?
