I have a serious question for all you Eagle pilots with family's and/or responsibilities. In December of 2007 I was hired with ExpressJet and was told to expect a class in January, well the economy tanked and long store short, I quit a descent flying gig for ExpressJet and class eventually cancelled, so I was out of a job. I ended up changing careers to please my wife (now ex) and became a cop. I have been a cop for a couple years now and really enjoy it but miss being a pilot even more. I applied with Eagle in August and was offered a job on September 15. I have a mortgage, child support and a ton of bills courtesy of my wonderful (sarcasm) ex-wife. I know I will be taking a substaintial pay cut for the first couple of years at the airlines and I am ok with that. My question is with all the rumors with AMR filing for chapter 11, is it a good time for me to quit another decent job only to have class cancelled or make it through training only to be one of the lucky ones to be furloughed. What would you do? This is my first post and would really prefer only mature responses. Thanks in advance!

What,
That is the most lucid and thoughtful response I have seen on this entire forum. THANK YOU. |

Long story short: yes, it is very much worth it coming to Eagle now. With all the movement and people they are hiring you will move up the seniority list prety fast. As for first year pay and a few months at the bottom of the seniority list, its like pulling off a bandaid. Just do it and get it over with because life becomes very good soon afterwards. Eagle is not going anywhere and AMR is desperate to lock us into a long term deal. Upgrades are at 4 1/2 years right now and dropping, so it is a great time to come over. |
Really you just need to take a step back and look at how this is going to affect your relationship with your son.

Speaking of iPads, any early reviews of the EFB?
At this point, the iPads have to be supplied by the individual pilot who wants to try the program. I'm pretty sure that will change if the iPad is mandated. |

Can you elaborate on this a little more? Im an Eagle new hire starting class soon, and I have an Ipad. Does Eagle have a EFB program thats allowed to be used if you own the pad?
So anyone who does this voluntarily needs to have their head examined. |
