Actually, if I had to make the same decision today, I'd still leave Eagle. The writing is on the wall there and as bad as things might get here, they will be worse there.
Think of it this way; If AA simply becomes Eagle, I've made lateral move that keeps my pay and schedule at least as good as it was, instead going down. Eagle was good for me though. My schedule allowed me to start and run two businesses on the side, BOTH of which made me more money then flying. Although I only have one now, I am blessed with not depending on flying for an income. A mid-seven figure investment portfolio and virtually no debt also helps.
Thanks for the welcome, though. I figure I had to at least try life on the "other side" before I left the industry. It seems the year I spent here is the last vestages of that life and soon, I'll work for just another LCC, with medocre pay and a 401(k) just like you. The poor pilots in the 25-40 range have the worst of all deals. Spending your career flying larger RJ's only to see all that extra ca$h go somewhere else will only be less painful then doing that for a decade or more and then finally moving to a former major that isn't much better (that's IF they ever leave due to shrinking mainline ops). Choking up $50-75,000 extra greenbacks in college to do it, makes it absurd. The other guys at their colleges making twice the dough for half the investment have to be shaking their heads.
Let's face it..........it isn't even a career any more, it's now just a job on par with the average Home Improvement store manager except you're away from home more often. My neighbor does HVAC and doesn't even own the company and makes more then most mainline captains today. Sad, but that's where we are now. If AMR gets their term sheet, UAL and DAL won't be far behind and then you too will retire at a regional carrier that just doesn't have any RJ's.
Then, I'll be able to welcome YOU to the regionals.

That's right, leverage for downward concessions or lose more of your flying. Look, I realize you've been in this industry perhaps 5 years and don't know ****** from shinola about it, but AMR did this exact thing in the 1990's and it worked pefectly. It's coming your way again, you're just too new to remember it from the past.
You'll enjoy it soon as much as we did 20 years ago. I'm just trying to toughen you up now to prevent a complete and total crack-up when it does happen. Think of me as "Sgt. Hartman" from Full Metal Jacket.

HA! you show me another job, in or out of the industry, where the company 401K contribution is 16%! No match, just 16%. Medocre, my arse. I suspect AA's bankruptcy will affect me about as much as UA's affected AA pilots. ie. not much. The fact that your whining over possible RJ gains at AMR is comical. Go back a few years and read some of your posts. Then let the irony/hypocracy sink in. Pot, meet kettle.

Both my Fidelity and Schwab investments BLOW AWAY my 401(k) and of course, there's nothing like straight cash to count on and use to maximum advatage. My "RJ posts" of the past were virtually ALL geared how mainline pilots (regional pilots will too, they just refuse to see that yet) were going to lose on scope and pay the price as more and larger RJ's proliferate, taking more of their flying and driving mainline pilots earning power into the gutter. They were also about the unions either standing around and letting it happen (ALPA) or likely being powerless to stop it (APA).
You saying I'm wrong now ?
Look around, dude..........open your eyes and look around.
It's all happening exactly as I said. The only losers are pilots...............ALL pilots. AA is the last stick holding up the mainline pilot fantasy barn and soon that will likely fall taking other mainline pilots along with it.
GAME OVER.

Who needs that extra 10% above typical industry (6-8 %) when you're making another $30-75,000/year like several "blue-collar" guys I know?

Not even close. Scope at UAL was gutted in 2003. That was a long time ago. Now the RJs are shinking, not growing. 11 going bye bye this year, including seven -700s. The game is not over, it is still being played. As for major airline jobs paying less than blue collar. C'mon man. Let's not get carried away. I sat on rsv all last year and did alright; esp. if you add in the retirement, $0/mo med-dental for my family, and even the little things like parking, dry cleaning, crew meals, non-rev to Europe AND HI....all the standard "LCC" perks. I will bet you we see a 15-20% raise in the next 12mo as well. It ain't over by a LONG stretch.

your the eagle version but still +1, dont lock it just lock eaglefly out. This guy must be a joke in real life. He must be one of those eagle guys that flowed up to AA, that all the AA captains who jumpseat on us ***** ABOUT! I could almost guess Eaglefly is MIA 737 FO. He most likely is THAT GUY.
