Generally speaking, yes. All things considered equal someone who will be upgrading after 3 years with the company and 2500 in type will be more qualified than someone who upgraded in 12 months with the company and 800 hours in type. They latter would be less experienced in the workings of the company as well as 121 environment.

I am just making a general point and do not fit in the group that has a sense of entitlement. I come from a background where you work for every inch and privilege you get to include my previous employer. In all actuality I will likely be onto another job before my upgrade or will turn upgrade down until I move on in the near future.

In my personal case upgrade is not an upgrade at all. I go to the saab and make 10K more than I make now and sit reserve, non commutable.

Management can hire Street CA's tomorrow, and there isen't a damn thing the pilot group or CJC ALPA can do about it.

Here is the winner. There were talks a week or so ago about hiring some lynx guys for the dash 8 and the pilot group was rightfully up in arms over it since we have FOs on the seniority list who bid it.

Until we get a contract the bottom line is that they can do whatever they want.

I don't blame any flight instructors or anybody else taking this job because it's a BETTER OPPORTUNITY and you're just trying to get you're foot in the door.(I remember I would have done anything to get out of flight instructing.) However, any furloughed people that have the experience, why waiste you're time? Wait it out. I found a non flying job making just as much as I did as a 3rd year jet FO. No reason to sell yourself for 18,000 per year, commuting on reserve, when it isn't going to help your career. Sorry to offend, but I felt like I was underpaid making over 30,000 my last two years. Not worth it to be away from home half the time, doing 5 legs per day.

It's no secret to anyone in the industry that the Colgan pay scale is atrocious to say the least. It's also no secret that most people come here for one of two reasons ... a) quick upgrade (which, as it stands right now is still shorter than any other company ... but longer than it used to be) ... b) based at home (which, with our outstations closing that's no longer the case either). Being a pilot here myself I will say that as much as we get abused ... the pilots here are some of the greatest people/pilots I have ever met. Of course there are exceptions like there is with any company.

With any luck we'll have a contract by summer 2011 and QOL will improve greatly! We'll see.

Let's do our part to make sure it's a contract we like, and not a sub-par contract with promises of future returns.

I upgraded in a year at Colgan and flew with Chris Wiken a lot before he upgraded. He was preparing hard for months before he ever was called for the upgrade.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear about 2-3 year FO's that do not appear to be ready. When one sees the upgrade coming in 6 months to a year they will pay more attention to the captains flows and company manuals out of sheer terror. Once the upgrade gets closer I bet you see everyone get better, ask more questions, and what not because they know the upgrade is near.

Agreed. No contract is better than being stuck with a crappy one they rushed through. I hope the guys at the table are bringing their "A" game.
