In other news... A guy I used to work with told me his kid just got out of community college last year. He is a physicians assistant making 80k a year. He works Monday through Friday with weekends and holidays off. He can pretty much work anywhere he wants. I want to kick myself in the nuts now.
Unless you have a burning desire to sit in the pointy end of a jet and have little ambition for any type of a normal well rounded life, this career makes zero sense.

I did a little research. You are right. A PA takes 4 to 6 years. It still pays more and costs less than becoming an airline pilot. It's much more stable too. Maybe he misspoke his kids job title or I misunderstood it, either way pretty much everything in the medical field is better than flying the "people of Walmart" around in a tin can.

I second this. Its takes at least a 3.8 GPA and lots of volunteer experience to even be competitive. Even nursing is hard to get into right now. Lets face it right now every job is difficult to get into right now.

Here's some highlights from a trade publication--
Many of those who say they are very satisfied mentioned their salary as the reason. “My job satisfaction comes from flexibility and great compensation,” brags one very satisfied respondent. Another allows that “work/life balance and excellent salary,” keep him happy.
The median salary was at $75,000 in 2006 and 2005, with the majority of respondents – 14 percent both years – saying they are earning between $60,000 and $69,999 per year.
Can you guess the occupation?
Food Engineering. Did not even know this field existed but then again, how else do you get the double stuff oreo?
Four year degree...one of the best paying out of the gate engineering jobs.

^ honestly I am thinking of every possible way to leave aviation and get on with my life. I really feel like I am wasting any talent I have and am a few months away from 30 years old. EVERY day I go to work WISHING, PRAYING the flights would just cancel and I could go home
. When I get there its not too terribly bad, but anything over 1:00 block and I just can't take it..........
If I just do, maybe an IAD turn one a week I may not hate the job so much..............
