I think before you make assumptions about a company based on a letter you need to know the facts. First of all Chuck does not "run" the company as you assumed. Although he is a Colgan his duties over the years have diminished and now I believe he is just a pilot recruiter. It's sad to see a letter like that yes, but not because it is indicative of the condition of the company it came from but because of the person it came from. Chuck has had quite a few very serious health conditions over the past few years and kudos to him for even attempting to come back to work. We all thought he was a gonner last year. Personally Chuck has never done wrong by me. He has helped me get a few friends onboard in the past. Yes everyone here has a favorite "Chuck Colgan" story that just makes you shake your head but seriously the guy is harmless. Cut him slack.

Just thought you should know a little about him before you form an opinion of "such a place"

 

AJDwings, I'm just not sure how you can defend a letter like that actually being sent out. Chuck may have had health problems but how about his computer spell check, or his assistant. We don't get anywhere by defending stuff like this. The company might be the greatest thing since sliced bread or the worst thing ever, I'll reserve my judgement there but either way, you have to be able to put out a professional correspondence to your potential employees. Maybe they just want to see who doesn't notice or care about such errors?

 

Im not defending the letter. Im defending the guy that wrote it. The letter should not have gone out like that period! We get company letters, emails, memos and other communications all the time and none of them have grammar issues at all. It as not fair for the poster to judge an entire airline based on one letter. I have no doubt on my mind that if anyone noticed that letter before it was sent out it would have not gone. There is no conspiracy theory to send out a letter like that just to see who notices, be serious.

 

In all honesty, I highly doubt Chuck Jr. will be the face of future Mesaba's recruitment department. I agree, professional correspondence is important to a recruiting department however, I will say I HAVE seen plenty of clerical/spelling/grammatical errors at several other so-called "reputable regionals". I'm certainly NOT defending it in any way whatsoever. All I'm saying is that there will surely be a "changing of the guard" at ColgAba in the near future, so I wouldn't be so quick to make assumptions about the future work environment at Colgan er, Mesaba based on recruiting correspondence.

I do not work for Colgan, but I have met Chuck and have had the opportunity to speak with him over the years... I believe the man has a good heart.

I realize you are probably a pretty sharp grammar dude and a slick pilot but please get over yourself.

I will also like to say that I like Chuck Colgan Jr. he is a very nice man and he does have a big heart. He has always been very good to me over the years and when my wife passed away he came to the funeral. Not as a company rep, but as a person that cared.

 

Chuck is a nice man but he in no way has anything to do with how the company is run. I would even venture to say that he does not even have hiring authority like he may have had back in the day.

 

Glad to hear he is such a great guy, sorry to those who are so close to him that I offended, but, I really do not understand how someone could send a letter out like that.

It would be like me sending in my resume with a ton of misspelled words, or better yet, a cover letter with spelling and grammar problems.
Do you think an employer would hire someone like that?
I honestly don't think so.

 

I met Chuck Colgan last week and he was under the weather . He is actually a very nice guy . That letter that has been posted may have been typed up by an office worker . After talking to him I am of the opiniion that those words did not come from him . The spelling or grammar either .

The " I have no desire to work at such a place" sounds fishy is it you have no desire to work at the place or they did not hire you? I was not hired but have no axe to grind I did ****ty in the sim . My fault ...not Colgans . Given the opportunity to do the sim over I would do well. Just my observation.
