Skywest opens IAH base

Hopefully you aren't a captain and are far from holding the left seat, but if you are one and deny me a jumpseat based on your distorted worldview I will gladly report you to your pro standards committee. Misuse of the jumpseat is grounds for termination so on second thought, deny anyway buddy.
First, Captains authority and control over the jumpseat should never be weakened, from the Company or its Pilots. Its use is predicated solely on authorized use IAW FAA regulations.
Captains shall (and should) retain complete authority over the use of the jumpseat.
NOTE: I have no dog in this fight -- I am not defending “XJT Pilot” in any way, nor am I advocating a “Jumpseat War” – that would be a disastrous thing to do.
Second, the PRO STANS program committee is commonly misunderstood among some segments of the pilot group, many times the younger generations of pilots, as a way to “tattle” on an offending crewmember in an attempt to seek relief.
Under ALPA, The Professional Standards Program is ALPA and Management approved, and is designed to safely resolve disputes between working crewmembers in a Management and penalty free environment. No blame or punishment is dispensed, and it is typically a way for crewmembers to resolve conflicts outside of the flight deck.
Such conflicts as:
• Cockpit managerial style (CRM)
• Personality conflict
• Non-adherence to standard operating procedures
• Crew coordination issues
• Distracting personal habits
• Certain Sexual harassment situations
Examples of situations that are not handled by Professional Standards include:
• FAA enforcement/violation cases
• Grievance matters
• Substance abuse problems
• Medical related issues
• Legal issues
• Proficiency situations
Finally, A Captain who runs his cockpit is a certain way (safely and within FAA and company guidelines), but in ways that you disagree with, is hardly a reason for a PRO STANS referral. That is typically called “suck it up” and live with it. When you become a captain, you can run things the way you see fit.
I don’t feel the captains use of the jumpseat (whether he permits a rider or not) is a PRO STANS referral. You would be better off speaking with your Jumpseat Committee about that. And they WILL speak to the pilot, believe me.
In closing, I suggest everyone review

It might raise the RVR over the fog I see developing here.

When I was at AWAC, I had the ProStans chair contact me because I posted a spreadsheet with all RON hotels & their prices to the company on the Air Willy Forum...a spreadsheet that AWAC management itself had (mistakenly) posted on the employee website. I don't see that falling under the realm of sandlapper's "ProStans conflicts"...
That said, you kids (based on behavior alone) need to grow up a little with all this talk of jumpseat wars & other nonsense. Pilots don't control where the planes go, so don't punish your colleagues (SKW non-union, XLT ALPA or otherwise) over some fight that's between CAL pilots and their management team re: UAX 70 seaters in CAL hubs.
WHILE NOT ALL FIT THIS MOLD: SKW pilots, understand why people might be ****ed off at the situation with CR7s in IAH and XJT pilots, maybe publicly express a little less hubris than some of you have over the last, oh, half-decade or so?

I won't be one of the ones in IAH, and I'm not terribly excited about the new base, but you might think twice about denying somebody the jumpseat. I've got little kids at home and my stay-at-home wife works her @$$ off to take care of them. If somebody were to deny me the jumpseat to send a message, they aren't really hurting me, they're not hurting Skywest, they're hurting my wife who desperately needs my help at home. Think about that next time you want to show some ego, you are hurting women and children. In my opinion, that ranks you among the lowest.

actually the first paragraph was a question asking if this could happen.
to be quite honest with you, reality does not play out the way you posted. big picture is if they offered you a recall, unless you are making big money elsewhere, you are coming back no matter what or loose your seniority. your brothers or not.

I'm sure there will be an XJT domicile in LAX, SFO, or DEN within 12 months or so, so lets ALL try to be understanding of this situation which was not caused by any pilot.
Long term hopefully we will all be one list and most people can bid to work close to where they live.

XJT will be bringing 50 seaters into DEN for sure, and I suspect other western UA hubs as well. The vast majority of SKW pilots want nothing to do with IAH, nor do we want to do four day trips in the east...believe me this was NOT our idea, nor are we happy about it.
