Trial set in case of flight crews suing for hazardous-duty pay - Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 | 2:33 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

Judge rules for pilots suing airline over hazard pay - Las Vegas Sun

Even though this is in regards to the 767, I am sure it will have an effect on the whole company.

Going to their web site doesn’t help much at all. Ok, so they fly 767’s EM’s AND ER’s, 737’s 300’s 400’s and 800’s, and Dornier 328’s and 228’s. No info on the fleet size and the web site as of today Nov 6th, 2010, says they’re not hiring. The route map is the best, one red, dashed arrow from Louisville to Atlanta. I was going to ask a mod why they don’t put up a bio on this airline but now I see why, it seems to barely exist, no offense to the few guys who fly for them and read this. That would be punk rock if it was all one seniority list, “Yea, I’m flying the D0-228 right now but I’m think’n of bidding the seven-six…”

Another part that was really interesting was the, “The Airline Subservice” I can’t imagine too many airlines contracts that would allow this service to be retained.

But hey, if you're flight instructing or flying piston right now, get some turb time and move on down the road, whatever.

Well, I interviewed with them. Went fairly well, haven't heard back yet though.

Other people were right on track when they spoke of kissing ass to upgrade. I asked them about upgrades, and they said seniority had little to do with it. It's all based on "merit". They also said that they have a minimal workforce, and don't keep a lot of people on reserve, so like if you need vacation or sick time, someone else has to arrange to cover for you.

Everything else seems ok, equipment, and pay and such. But I am hesitant to go to an operation where I will be kissing ass, and taking ****ty lines on my days off just to upgrade. There is something to be said for being unionized with a firm seniority list.

If they offer me this job, I'm going to have to do some serious sole searching. Any thoughts?

Jet time is hands down better than buzzing the pattern in a single engine pistion.......but make the decision based on where you eventually what do go/do. Does giving up a good job to go to an job that might not exist in 6 months or never give you an upgrade really worth it? Or spend another year where you are and go to the "good regional" that has decent pay and a upgrade based on seniorty, whats the downside? That is a question you have to answer.

Make a list of the good/bad about both jobs and then make the decision. Some can be easier than others but really this will come down to what you want.

Well, they offered me the job. Going to be a difficult decision for sure.

Pay is actually better then your typical regional. They couldn't tell me exactly, but they seemed to think like high 20s, or maybe even low 30s. So yeah, the pluses decent pay, and a good airplane. I would think a thousand PIC hour 328 captain would be a contender for the majors. And of course there is also the possibility to upgrade to the 737 within the company.

But then there are the downsides, or potential downsides. Will there be an SDF-ATL line in 6 months? If not will I even have a job? It's unknowable.

And then of course it's non-union, and i'm leery of the "merit" based upgrades. Tough decisions.

Yeah, Vision sucks. They're one of the few places that still let you pay for a job. They are also one of only two management teams in the country that tried to fly scab flights during the Spirit strike. Apparently their pilots refused and they were unable.
It's a lousy company, but it will get you some experience.

I used to live in Vegas around 1999.

Never heard a good thing about Vision. That was back when your choices to get out of CFI'ing (which is what I was doing @ North Las Vegas airport) were: Vision and Scenic. Scenic was viewed as the better route to get some turbine time and then scram for a "decent" (to use the word loosely) commuter like Skywest, Horizon, etc.

Not sure how the situation is now (or what yours is). But you could always work for them, log a few hundred SIC turbine time, then scram for another regional. Not sure if that's the kind of place you would be able to hang out in long enough to upgrade then get 1000+ PIC turbine to apply to a major. But it's probably better than CFI'ing to use as an interview getter at a Skywest type place.

(note: spell check inop)
