Yes it was kind of odd that it doesn't say how many they need. It's like they enjoy giving false hope right around the holidays.

If they sent out 54 recall notices they'd only get about 15 yes responses...then they'd have to wait another two weeks and repeat the same action for another 39 guys....which they would get even less yes responses...and so on. It's been 2 years at a miniumum for the furloughed so maybe mgmt is thinking "well we know most people have moved on to better and brighter things....or are already flying for other airlines so we might as well ask everyone."

Also you noticed that the wording is pretty open ended as to how many guys might be needed. "We are also planning classes for Feb and March." Might mean they just want to know in case they indeed DO need more than 54 warm souls.

[/like I said, I have no idea whats going on but it's a thought]

Hey Bud, I agree somewhat...but rumor is that there aren't as many deferrals as they thought. Many people, like myself found a job after their furlough...(luckily)...but that doesn't mean they don't want to get back to flying airplanes.

Food for thought: some guys 'flying at other airlines' had to resign their seniority number. I know waterskiers that went to Mesaba had to. These folks are not on the up to date seniority list that i saw....I believe about 130ish were on the furlough list including voluntary furlough guys.

In any case are you planning on staying at the Pear Tree or what?

I agree. You'd think that the guys on the bottom of the list gave up long ago on recalls and found something else. The guys at the top are probably more willing to stick it out.

Hey Purpleanga,

The message from the union says 54 recalls...yet the company sends out 130 letters? Maybe they've got something up their sleeves?

Agreed with the majority of your post here! The only thing is that we're probably getting caught up in the rumor mill a bit.

While the guys I know who went to Mesaba are no longer on the seniority list, those who went to Compass/G7 remain.

At this point we're all just going to have to wait it out. I'm still working at my job but G.D....TSA would be an improvement!

I'll do the Pear Tree again if training is quick...otherwise I'll have to find a way to slum it....the long drive is already going to be tough!

Maybe 129...They have my correct address and yet I did not get the recall letter.

Had I received the letter I would have to pass until a mandatory recall is out. How should I proceed in this case? Call, ask for my letter and differ it? Or leave it alone since I'll be differing it anyway? Like I said I still plan to come back but not until a mandatory recall is issued.

Thanks and good luck!

Don't do anything if you're going to defer it

Yea there's something wrong there, I know someone that lives as far from STL as you can get and they got it 2 days later.

Seeing that they're waiting for confirmations, you should probably tell them that you didn't get it but that you're going to pass.

DryMotorBoatin 12-03-2010 02:37 PM

i dont think it matters how many accept the voluntary recall, i think a mandatory recall will be right around the corner once enough of the first wave wash out. washout rates were comical during initial, just wait til we get a couple days of training. also, the last i heard, pear tree has a happy hour room with free beer and food 5-7 m-f. i wanna be in training as long as possible.

This company is ridiculous.. I talked to a flight manager and they did in fact send out 130 letters for only 54 slots, they did this because they did not think very many would accept.. He said a lot more are accepting then they thought would and was not sure what would happen and said the company would be in contact when it knows what the hell its doing. He implied around 40 have accepted and only 10 have deferred so far (roughly 50 responses of the 130)… Back to the waiting game.

This is all personal opinion but I think the guys on the bottom of the list are the ones that got hired in the 250-750hrs and may not have been able to find anything else and would be the ones coming back for sure. Just my 2 cents...

Salukipilot4590 12-04-2010 10:00 AM

The rumor mill here is absolutely incredible!

40 in general or 40 from the top of the list? Did he say if everyone has responded wether they accepted or not? If they've only gotten 50 out 130 responses to date that means that the actual recall pilot pool is pretty small, at least for the voluntary.

He did not say top bottom or middle so I'd say in general. 40 yes and 10 no is an 80% accept ratio, 80% of 130 pilots is a lot more than 54

I was commenting on the fact that with this company we will never know anything until they announce it.

At this point anything said by anyone is speculation and rumor. I've heard drastically different acceptance numbers from two different people at this point.

The best thing for everyone to do right now is to just go on living life and not worry about this...I mean come on....remember what happened a year ago? I'm not even worried about it until I get a class date or a "Hey, sorry for getting your hopes up....hope you ain't mad" letter/phone call again.

[dusts shoulders off....I ain't even mad]

Well that ratio is for those that have actually responded which is only around 50 according to the flight manager. I think the 7 day deadline to respond has been up for most by now. If they've only gotten about 50 responses to date then you probably have a good chance of going back if you accepted this round. I think it's also safe to assume that more than likely the people that respond are going to accept, the ones that are not probably threw their paper in the trash and let the 7 day limit expire.

Again I'm assuming you talked to him a day or two ago, not last week because that would change the actual number of responses.

I'm with you man. At this point it's nice to know info but it doesn't matter until you hear from the company. No use in worrying about it.

DryMotorBoatin 12-04-2010 12:06 PM

this company could screw up a 2 car funeral. i dont know why they cant take 5 extra minutes and spell out a few details instead of keeping everybody in the dark. i liked it last time around when we didnt hear a thing for 2 weeks and then RZ is callin me at 730am on a Saturday morning. im waiting for that phone call again this time. regardless...40 accepting out of 50 isnt 80%...it would be 40 out of 130 which is like ~30%. im also very disappointed in saluki for not coming up with some animated .gif that perfectly captures this situation.

How do we get a hold of a mentor, I have no names or numbers? It would suck to quit my job then wash out of the program :(

If you have your GOS binder/study guide from initial, they are in there. Although it is fairly outdated since it still has J41 mentors as well.

oh come on, they need 54 yes responses and then they actually have to match them to the seniority list. it's really really super complicated stuff they're dealing with here, it could take as long as 20 minutes.

I'm wondering if the first classes go senior or junior? They never asked us which classes we'd prefer.

You would think it would go in order of seniority... One might even hope they give you an option of when you wanted to start

Been a couple days, anyone heard anything?

Side note...hit a personal record in the gym last night! 315lb barbell back squat!

I've been working on that for almost a year!

LIGHT WEIGHT!

Heard everyone recalled will be upgraded in one year. :D

The CP said you will be contacted soon but that was 7 days ago and he's been non responsive since. I guess by soon they mean this month.

Funny, because that sounds like the exact words that were mentioned to us during my initial class.

I also remember when the company picked a certain individual for a flight manager position and bumped him up to Captain while bypassing seniority. Everyone was very happy about that one .

Wish everyone the best of luck. Godspeed to all Waterskiers.

TBucket 12-09-2010 01:08 PM

Hey, they announced eight whole upgrades yesterday. Woohoo... sigh.

Purpleanga 12-09-2010 01:58 PM

I finally got a reply from our new chief pilot today saying We are setting classes this week...

Didn't say anything about choice of class.

gary0724 12-09-2010 04:05 PM

I emailed the new chief november 23rd and still have not recieved a reply. I dont even know if he received the info that I wanted to be recalled, crazy.

You gotta call man, he needs to hear your voice...and it always helps put a voice/face to the name since I'm ALMOST positive you didnt have to see him while you were in initial.

Kinda like a "Hey brah....I'm first officer Brock Kickass....remember my voice for later bro!" or something like that.

I don't know what I'm talking about.

Time2Fly 12-09-2010 04:28 PM

I got this email from the new CP a week ago...

Thank you for your e-mail. I have recorded your response. I am sorry I can't call everyone right now, just too many calls for me to make. If you accepted the voluntary recall, you will be contacted soon. Thank you for your patience.
Nothing since...

One of the guys in my class just got his letter yesterday..

No, I think they officially put out a bid for 8 upgrades. I'm guessing this is the first round. Since I'm trying to stay positive, I'm guessing that they just can't pull 16 or 22 (whichever the correct # of upgrades is) right away into one class since they don't have enough FOs to replace them. Lets hope to hear something Monday.

Yeah, the 8 is what came of the "16" they announced. Two a week each week in Jan. No official word on when/if there will be any more...
