The odds would be in our favor if someone had an idea how to get a hold of training material. Showing up to requal after having purged all 145-related information isn't going to be a good look.

Does TSA still publish electronic (PDF) versions of the GOM/SOP/etc? If so, would it be possible for someone to send along copies sans any SSI pages?

Positive_Rate 12-14-2010 01:10 PM

Not IAD based, but will be displaced there soon. I hear there are very few crashpads in IAD area...there might be some opening once RIC closes, but no word yet.

The rest of us will be able to sleep on the STL terminal floor for the low low price of our dignity. Good for you guys though!

As in previously based at IAD or RIC? I was IAD-based for all of a week before getting furloughed.

Terminal floor?! Forget that, nothing finer than some terminal benches dragged together à la The Terminal :D

wait so you're one of the more senior guys to be furloughed and you still haven't heard back yet?

DryMotorBoatin 12-14-2010 04:11 PM

Has anyone gotten any info on how much training will be given? I keep hearing rumors from a couple of days to a month but nothing for sure..

I called to update my address and found out my phone number the company had was wrong. Really odd since they called that number to F me in the beginning but now they had it one number off.. Either way you might want to call for yourself and see what’s up

minimwage4 12-14-2010 09:30 PM

Ok so they've only gotten about 40 out 130 to accept.

And they're still waiting for the 7 days to expire on all notices per the cba to make sure it's still only 40.

But........ they've started to give out class dates to some, even as late as Jan24.

Does this make much sense?

I was told one day for orientation, drug testing, and finger printing, and seven days for requal (three days in the classroom, followed by four sim sessions).

3 days in the class!?!?? What kind of testing will there be?

That I don't know. Not to mention the information I was told could be wildly inaccurate, so take it for whatever it's worth... if anything.

It could be true. As long as you did the 100 or 120 hours whatever it was before you were furloughed, you do the short training.

Any idea how long it would be for the people that didn't get to complete their 120 hours of consolidation of knowledge?

By now I'm sure everyone knows/has responded. If they're waiting it's going to be like running out the clock in a high school football game.

They are making phone calls to issue class dates.

No they don't have all the responses. They're still waiting for the 7 days to expire on them. But the fact that some have gotten a call and some haven't is totally puzzling since it defeats the whole purpose of them waiting in the first place.

Agreed, but I recieved my letter right around the 28th of Nov. Seeing how they probably sent them out all at the same time since I'm closer to the bottom of the list, it doesn't make sense that they are still waiting for people to respond. Last time I checked you can mail a letter in the US and have it pretty much anywhere in the country in 3 - 4 days. The USPS tries to deliver 3 times then if not picked up they send it back. Just seems to me that it is way outside of that timespan. Anyone else agree?

They are wasting time. But it's true, they are waiting on the USPS because people never bothered to respond. I mean in all likeliness they're not going to get more than what they have now. If you haven't responded by now or don't know that your company is recalling you're probably stuck somewhere in Antarctica.

proav8r 12-15-2010 03:51 PM

My letter was dated 11/22, postmarked 12/1 and received on 12/8....when you're dealing with TSA and the USPS its a crapshoot.

pgriffin 12-15-2010 09:30 PM

Man, man, man.... you guys are complaining already and most are still a month away from first day of class.... LMAO

They are giving out classes. Most likely MS will call you and then email you the info/forms packet that needs to be filled out/make copies of your stuff and brought in that first day you go down to STL.

First, you'll do one day event (fly in the night before and they put all ex IAD and RIC guys up). Then, you go home and come back on Sunday for training. Hotel situation is based on your last domicile held.
Call NL if you have any questions, she'll be more than happy to talk/email. Then, email T-the travel lady, explain where you are coming from, what dates and your DOB.

As long as you were not based in STL when we all got the boot, they will fly and put you up.

minimwage4 12-16-2010 12:20 PM

Ok so apparently the classes for Jan are filled. They go down as far as Feb08 hires. But even for those that actually have a class it's not 100% for sure because there are still senior pilots that have NOT responded, they're still waiting on USPS. But it's very unlikely that they will so they are going ahead with notifications at least for the Jan folks.

mark5467 12-16-2010 01:43 PM

For those that have already recieved their class date: Did they assign you a new base when they assigned you your date?

Time2Fly 12-16-2010 01:45 PM

Does anyone have a list of mentors in STL? I think JB who did ground in his basement moved to Texas, did anyone take that over?

AZ wildcat 12-16-2010 02:27 PM

Well all you guys can forget about the recalls.... I just notified my current job that im leaving and if this recall is anything like the last, we should all be receiving our calls canceling the recall any minute now....

Way to go, ruining it for everybody. Nobody else quit your job until after you pass your checkride. Of course, even if you wait until then, we'll get released and Hulas will shut the airline down.

I'll see your resignation and I'll raise you, I just resigned AND notified my housing that I will be leaving (The same entity)

Explained what's going on and if anything happens I'm welcome back....as long as it's not too late (Mid-Feb or March) so that's good.

Golden Child 12-16-2010 07:51 PM

I'm in it neck deep, why stop now? What is the likelihood that 4 sims get the job done? I was told by a TSA-er on the way out to Southwest/Air Tran that Trans States Holdings is so short staffed that they need every warm body they can get. Gojet hired someone who had previously been declined. He said that now that everyone is hiring, there are many leaving and thinning the ranks of TSA in the process. Rehires are cheaper than new hires, and have a record of success... so it is likely in their best interest to get us through, though they have made worse and ridiculous choices before. Who sees a strike coming?

atpcliff 12-16-2010 09:01 PM

Airline hiring is going up, up, up worldwide. As each month go by, the big overseas airlines (Qatar, Emirates, KAL, Chinese airlines) and the US regionals will get more and more desperate. In a year or so, it will make early 2008 look like a walk in the park for regional recruiters.

Flight/Duty/Rest changes, necessitating LOTS more regional pilots, will be in force prior to 1 Aug of next year.

I realized the other day that putting all of my eggs in one basket was an extremely stupid idea. I told my employer what was going on and finagled a deal to stay on the books as an independent consultant with an offer to "come back at any time". Not all hope is lost...

...yet.

DryMotorBoatin 12-17-2010 05:22 AM

eventhough i enjoy my current job and like my boss, i think im gonna go out in a real blaze of glory, screaming and swearing. probaly threaten a few people on my way out too. make real sure i cant go back there. as for the retraining...im not surprised were only getting 3 days of class, i am surprised were getting four sim sessions, i cant believe theyre being so generous. eventhough, as i look through other contracts, most get full ground school/sim training over after being gone 1+ year. oh well...

It's because we are just that good :D

But seriously, this is going to be challenging to say the least.

Purpleanga 12-17-2010 07:43 AM

The challenge will be the 4 days of sim. I'm pretty sure everyone will be able to fly the plane normally as soon as they get in but as far as the failures go, it will definitely be a challenge especially the checklist stuff.

The written tests have always been a joke so no one should get taken out by those.

The oral and the rides are the things to worry about. Its been a while since the check airmen have seen "newbies" they have been used to doing checkrides with guys that have multiple years in seat so it may be an interesting transition.

I do have a few questions for the guys coming back though.
1. How long have most of you been out of TSA?
2. Have you guys/gals had flying jobs since you left?

Good luck. Systems wise not much has changed so you can look at your old books real quick and the powerpoint from class and get the stuff back in your head.

If you guys want you can PM me and I can try to answer a few questions...They have been flying the crap outta me cause we are super under staffed so it may be a while before I get back, but I will try to get back fast.

Purpleanga 12-17-2010 09:36 AM

So there is no Jan 3rd class? They've only given out 3 classes right so thats about 18 recalled so far?

That's pretty much what I've deduced as well and there are 2/08 new hires in the Jan 24th class so that means that somewhere around 18 out of the first 100 have accepted. Looks like a mandatory is just around the corner.

1. Two years, almost exactly.
2. Negative.
