What a horrible airplane too! I hate the caravan! The heat switches are in the wrong place, the yaw damp sucks (it wags its tail in a turn), the low fuel lights go off with 1 hour 30 minutes of fuel, and it is so squirlly in flight, and god forbid you hit ice, good luck getting it off, oh and if you dont open the bypass doors immediately after ice, the engine vibrates like crazy while it chews on ice. poorly designed IMO.

I thought the van was great to fly. No need to worry about ice in Hawaii. Suburban with a turbine. The PW vans have auto pilot, GPWS, TAS and Garmin 530 430. But the company still could not find a spot to put in Aloha.

The caravan is a great airplane depending on the mission. Fedex owns 294 of them. I think it is a great machine. I love airplanes don't really care if its a C150, a Caravan, C402, C310 or a citaition and on and on......

Its a great Plane....safe reliable easy to fly has great windows to see everything...sucks in ice but hey nothing is perfect. Its a good plane for what they are using it for in Hawaii.....BUT stay away from Pacific Wings.......the guys that own it are evil...that's why they call it the evil empire...but if you need a job some single engine turbine time and want to live in Hawaii and get used and abused be my guest....you have be warned....

I know, I know...
Just curious if anything has changed at this place? I got an email today asking me to interview in ABQ for a Captain position. Just curious if anything has gotten better since last year.
Not interested in going whatsoever due to all the negative things I have heard. Just want some current info.
This is the email I got:
"Dear Applicant for Captain:
Thank you for your interest in Pacific Wings LLC and its d.b.a. Pacific Wings Airlines, New Mexico Airlines and Georgia Skies Airlines. We are recruiting to find the absolute best candidates as our airline grows.
Pacific Wings LLC currently operates a fleet of Cessna Grand Caravans. Although Caravan experience is a plus, it is not necessary to join our core of pilots. We are looking for highly motivated pilots that can handle passengers, baggage, customer service issues, and are willing to put in the effort to make Pacific Wings LLC a great airline.
You must be a FAA certified pilot and be able to work in the United States of America. You must meet this requirement to work for Pacific Wings LLC.
We provide all training requirements. Training is paid after successful Part 135 checkride.
Our minimum requirements for Captain are per 135.243: Commercial SEL, and Instrument Airplane, 1200 Total Time, 500 hours of cross country, 100 hours of night, and 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument. You MUST be instrument current.
We provide full medical at no expense after the first 30-60 days of employment. Spouses, children, and dental coverage are extra. We offer Vacation and a 401K. As a Captain, you also have jumpseat and non-rev privileges with several major airlines.
If you are interested in becoming a pilot for Pacific Wings LLC, we invite you to come to our training headquarters in Albuquerque NM for an interview. Applicants must be prepared to start Ground School within 2 weeks if selected. We know that your experience here will be rewarding and valuable."

Example: say two guys are applying for I dunno Skywest.
One guy has 2000tt the with 800hrs Turbine PIC, face it SIC time in the caravan doesnt count.
The other guy has 2000tt with 800 multi time (chieftan with AMF) time.
Who do think would have the upper hand just given the time breakdown??? I'd go with the AMF'er hands down...
Also, I've never heard of anyone with 1000hrs of PIC Caravan time go straight to the majors... SWA Airlines does advertise 1000hrs PIC Turbine but please introduce me to the fellow or lady that had benefited from that? F-16 drivers and so on don't count...
