I was at Lakes for 6 months in 1997-1998
Wasn't a bad gig as long as you went into it with the right mind set.
Don't worry about being one of those guys "chasing a quick upgrade" blah blah blah.
Always remember, you can quit anytime you want to. Most of us (myself included) left very low paying CFI jobs boring holes in the VFR sky in 172s to take that job. I flew there 6 months, logged 500 turbine, and had an interview at every single commuter airline hiring. Ended up going to Skywest (1999) at the time.
Again, Lakes isn't a bad gig as long as you realize you can quit it in 5 minutes if you want to. I've heard something about a training contact, which they didn't have at the time I went, in place now? That's something you'd definitely want to get the details, and enforceability, of before hand.

FWIW, A "recruiter" told you he wasn't worried! His job is to bring people in, also you are not worried about them shrinking? This is exactly what is happening. But make sure you keep your options open and hope it all works out.

If I remember correctly, the training contract is dropped if they furlough you for a period of time. (Didn't work there, but I did get offered a job there) If you can stand that kind of volatility, the time spent there will be worthwhile in the future.

*Of course the legality of actually having to pay it back is another issue.
JS'ed on AA yesterday, FO was a former Lakester...really puts things in perspective about C5 when you hear things about Lakes.

It was actually the Asst Chief Pilot who gave us that information. He is a pretty stand up guy too I wouldn't mind flying with him. He didn't sugar coat a thing and brought to life what it's like on the line.
