Pilot impersonates Federal Agent

No offense to the FFDOs out there, but when the program first started, it seemed to attract its fair share of "if I see a guy steal a pack of gum in the terminal, I can pull my gun, right?" types. Later, at least in my RJ world, it turned to guys who wanted a free gun but never carried it just so they could skip TSA. Both ends of the extreme, and their idiocy overshadowed the quiet, competent masses. Weed out the wingnuts and carry on!

Depends if/what they charge him with, if he gets a felony he will have some big problems with airline employment.

Big problems with future employment? I say, give this idiot the maximum 3 years in federal prison, and the $250,000 fine for impersonating a federal agent. There are too many complete morons out there today; especially in this business. This is one nut-job I'd rather not have on the street pulling a gun on my wife or child just because they swerved a little.

ffdos are not federal agents. We are federal officers (it's in the name). We don't have any jurisdiction outside of our very limited space in the aircraft. The only reason we are federal is because our jurisdiction is across all 50 states.
I'm not about to get into our sops on a public board. But he was completely out of line. Anyone that tries to justify his actions is crazy. He broke so many sops i can't even count them. He's done. End of story.

Although, I don't disagree with what you are trying to say.

Only flew with one FFDO and yes, total tool. During the preflight brief, he informs me that he intends to kill anyone breaching the cockpit door and tells me that he will shoot me if I get in his way. This dude was a check airman. I should have bailed on the flight and called crew support.
