Pilot impersonates Federal Agent
#161
OK first of all FFDOs are Federal Agents. They have a specific job and a tiny jurisdiction but they are Federal Agents. If I were an FFDO and I needed to call 911 because I was in danger of being mugged or something like that, I would preface my call with the words "Federal Agent in need of assistance." The cops would show twice as fast. Let them argue with me after they save my butt.
Secondly, anyone can make a citizens arrest. The jerk off pilot was within his rights to make the traffic stop. Of course, when the real cops showed up, they let the other guy go and questioned the pilot. Obviously he misjudged the importance of "arresting" the driver. Something tells me he often makes misjudgements. However, if the guy he pulled over had a kid in the trunk and he saved a life, he would have been a hero.
Like they tell you in FFDO training (I'm told) you'll be OK if you can articulate why you did what you did and they buy it. It's all about the result. Just like after an aircraft accident/incident. If you blow SOP but save the day, you're a hero.
Is this pilot a tool? Does he have an inferiority complex? Probably. My guess is we won't hear much more about this. And no, he's not done as a pilot. Probably done as an FFDO though.

From: The one that pays...
This story is very similar to the guy who wrote this turd of a book : No Thanks...I'd Rather Walk > Home ... The real ****ty thing was that he used the crash in Charlotte to try and give his book credibility.
After getting his ass fired (from Mesa) for jumpseating after drinking several beers, he came back and wrote this book... Last I heard he lost his license, and was working on an oil rig... What a douche.. Somehow, the chapter titled : "How I got my ass fired for being an idiot" is missing from the book...
Its guys like this that give us good stuff to laugh about...
