Of course the company is going to listen to a cap if he an issue with a pax, but at the same time, that is not free rein for (nor a right) for captain to do as he wishes, with no questions asked.

Obviously the chief will get involved with any unusual circumstances (and scream "opspecs! ... pilot in command!" all you want).

Who are you trying to kid?
You keep changing the topic at hand and making contradictions within your own statements.

No one is condoning a Captain for blatantly kicking off people just for the hell of it. I know of none who would do such a thing. We are discussing when PIC authority is in effect. I don't care how that particular FAR is worded. I can assure you, regardless of the phase of flight, a Captain will be held responsible for what takes place regarding said flight. This includes before, and during the boarding process.

Holy crap this hurts. Riding on any kind of pass, sit down and shut up. Riding on a jumpseat, "ask for forgiveness". It is that simple.

Of course, any captain can refuse to let an authorized person board. But not without answering for it, and he'd better have a damn good reason, and just saying "PIC" won't cut it.

I assume by your screen name you work for Delta Air lines....... If so maybe you should review the FOM.

Now it's even before! Does that authority vest when he wakes up in his hotel room?

And I agree with you: if the company says a person is authorized to ride on their airplane, the captain will be held responsible if he disallows it.

It could. Especially if there are issues regarding show times as it pertains to rest issues or maintenance. He or she isn't exerting Pilot in Command over anything, but Certainly Captain Authority, by amending the aircraft report time.

To your second statement, of course he or she may have to answer for his decision. Hell, the phone rings if we push 1 minute past departure time. But whether it be a Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, Fleet Manager, VP of Flight or Santa Clause...once the words "PIC/Captain Authority" or "safety of flight" are spoken, the conversation is over. Every single time.

It is concerning to me that as a dispatcher you don't understand this. You would make a great crew scheduler though!

Thank you.

I too don't understand why this thread is more than 1 post long. If you filled out the little piece of paper that had the word jumpseat on it somewhere, you check in with the crew even if the gate agent gives you a boarding pass with a seat assignment on it.

If you didn't, you just board like every other passenger.

Bull.

Might as well call urself F-15_Hero or USMC_COL.. You picked a username completely contrary to what you actually are. So in my book you are immature and deceitful. Combine that with the fact that you did not respond to my inquiry about your place of employment and i think we have a pretty clear picture of your personality.

This thread really needs a lock. You really need an accurate username.

Sorry for helping steer this thread off course, but the tangent conversation really got under my skin.
