You missed my entire point. I was playing devils advocate to the guy who said flow ups didn't "earn" their jobs. As far as I am concerned anyone who pays some dues and is qualified has earned their job. Once I found out I had flow rights to NWA I quit pursuing other jobs and even turned down a few great offers. I also know many others who did the same thing. I don't care how someone I fly with gets hired. All I care about is that they are competent and qualified. I am very lucky to be where I am, never said I wasn't. Just because you are in the right place at the right time doesn't mean you didn't earn your job.

It’s amazing how many people in the general public think anyone that is a pilot makes alot of money. I’m embarrassed and don’t want to freak them out that the guy in the airport food court makes more than I do flying them from one place to another. I was at LAX sitting ready reserve (yay) and was talking to a passenger heading to JFK and I explained what my reserve is, he replied...must be nice to sit around making really good money?? All I could say was, no pilots don’t make alot sitting reserve.......is it me or does anyone else get this too?? Sorry, just needed a place to gripe.
The best comment I get is when I'm commuting to and from and the passenger next to me says "must be nice to be able to get a ride for free"
Ahem...this wasn't free...I paid $60k for these rides lol

Skyhigh

Touche, SkyHigh.
Reminds me of an article in USA Today a couple months ago about a Phd working at Starbuck's because he could not find a job. His PhD? History.
I'm in a graduate program in TX - 15 years (or more) older than my 14 other classmates by the way - but at least I now have the resources to cash these courses out. Many of these bright eyed co-eds came right from undergrad and will now rack up another $30K in graduate work for a degree field that will peak at maybe 60-70K in 15 years.

What exactly does one do with a PhD in history? Not trying to be smart (no pun), but outside of teaching, or working in a museum, what do you do with that degree?

The same thing you do with a masters in psychology - pour coffee as swaayze indicates. Unless of course your company is paying for 75% of it so you can look smarter teaching CRM & human factors Then you drink coffee and study at Starbuck's while discussing the merits of the Gettysburg campaign with the smartest barista around!

Lol. Ok. maybe I'm asking the question in the wrong place. Back to our originally scheduled programming.
