Reserve is NOT considered duty. However, it is also NOT considered rest. So in a 24 hour lookback period you need to see at least one period of 8 hours to rest. That 12 hours is plenty sufficient.
Then what exactly is it considered?

We're in an IROP, they can extend us to ∞.

Reserve is not duty. It's also not rest. It's work you don't get paid for and doesn't count for anything. Thank the FAA for that. It's "legal" because you have 12 hours to report and are released into "rest" upon the call. This satisfies the 8/24 hour look back.

I really hope anyone considering coming here reads all of this and and takes it into account. Then goes elsewhere where they're treated better and have a faster upward progression. Upgrade here is currently 7+ years and most attrition is FOs. Once upgraded, CAs are spending 5+ years on reserve. Think about your career in that time frame. Money isn't everything.

Ok so let me get this straight;

Don't go to XJT because they treat you bad
Don't go to Mesa as they work under a BK contract
Don't go to Eagle because they are BK
Don't go to AWAC because they don't have a contract beyond 2015
Don't go RAH because, well we all know.

So where is exactly a new hire supposed to go?

To anyone considering coming here: My experience (ERJ_Cle) has not been like like this at all. Been here for 1 1/2 years, live in base, mostly bid reserve even though I can hold relief lines.

I have averaged about 4 days a month of not getting used; of course fly more in the summer but also less in the fall/spring. ARC (ready Res) is not that bad, 4 hrs at the airport, rarely fly, then released. I have seldom had it more than 4 times a month.

In Apr, (a busy month)I had 2 days of not getting used, however the trips that I did fly were relatively easy, often leaving late and/or getting off early...still better (to me) than a relief line with 4-days over the weekend.

I agree scheduling is for the most part, incompetent; however in my experience about 70% are polite and just seem to be trying to do their job. I have only had 2 days off rolled, but were restored the following week with 150% add pay.

Again, this is living in base, and with other income, so I don't mind min guarantee of 75 hrs...If you need all the income you can get, its a different story

Anyone feel free to PM me with any questions
