Resources - No. Living and working in DC. Family living in NC. Keeping two households and funding retirement like I don't have a military pension to count on.
Flying in DC - don't want to mess up and lose my security clearance. So I haven't since I got a TS/SCI w/ lifestyle last year. I don't need that kind of negative attention.
ATP is my quick way to get ratings / time to get started with a regional. If I can't get the regional of choice I'll CFI at a university (Auburn or ERAU / whoever hires me) until I can.
I plan far ahead - but its worked for me so far in life so I'm sticking to it...

Chiming in late on this one:
Flew a Twin Otter for skydivers: Average take-home $3800/mo
Just before that I was flight instructing and came out with a 2 year average of $23,000/year.
If you aren't in a rush, have some fun, and if you work hard, you can even make some money!

Have there been problems with DC-area pilots losing their SCIs? What would be the basis for that?
